CentexSweetheart
So I'm a stay at home mom to my (almost) six month old son, and my husband works all the time. I've been looking for a rewarding hobby (other than raising my brilliant baby boy) that might also bring in a little cash in one way or another. I am not even really equipped to do what I'd like to do, I've mostly just joined to learn from folks that have already done what I'd like to do so that I might have a leg up when I finally get my plans to a more physical phase.
Also, it just occurred to me that I'm not being very specific at all, I joined mostly for the sheep forums, not that I wouldn't consider some other "backyard herd" until I'm better equipped to take care of the small flock I'd like, just that that's my main reason for being here.
I was born and raised in central Texas, I grew up on the scenic route, so city life is not at all my style, but as a young couple/new parents/renters, there weren't really any country living options for us when we needed to sign a lease, so my plans to start raising sheep are still at least a year in the future, but I'm one of those people who likes to at least think she has a good idea what she's getting herself into before she gets started.
Back to my original point, I'm not really a stranger to small livestock in small numbers, I'm quite a few years out of practice working with any animals other than dogs and chickens (not that I've had chickens recently, but who really forgets how to take care of chickens?)
As far as animals go, I currently have one large blue heeler mix, but I don't think he'll be of much use when I get my flock because he's never been worked as a cattle dog (I know it's bred into them, let me finish)...and he's more than a bit of a dope. Not to say I don't love him to pieces, I just don't think he's gonna make the cut when I need a working dog.
If you haven't noticed I'm a bit of a rambler. My goal here is to learn as much as I can about raising sheep, particularly for wool, I am also interested in possibly starting up a petting zoo (mostly for my mom, that's been a dream of hers since I was very small), so I'm also open to learning about other barnyard friends that might be suitable for such endeavors.
I think I'm going to leave this at that for now, I may change it later, but I can't seem to actually talk about me, only what I want and I'm having a difficult time steering my brain in the right direction at this hour so cheers, I look forward to learning from you all, see you in the forums.
