Kelly Wolf
My husband and I have a small farmstead (4 acres) in northeast Texas where we raise our little flock of Dorper sheep (meat & milk), miniature Jerseys (milk & meat) and a colorful flock of chickens (eggs & meat).
We call our little place Found Penny Farm. It was a HUD repo and let's just say it had seen some hard years ... lots of trash, broken glass (lbs & lbs of it still being collected and cleaned up), broken beer bottles, pop tops, beer cans, old hay netting ... and coins... mostly pennies, a couple of old corroded dimes, nickels & quarters, but lots of pennies. They are crusted with dirt, some have nicks and a few have chunks missing (target practice?) but every time it rains and the dirt shifts, a new "crop" comes up. So ... Found Penny Farm.
Because we only have 4 acres we are all about "sustainable", we rotate our limited pastures, we carefully control our herd size and the best we do for all the critters is to raise/grow fodder in my hall bathroom, over the tub. I've been feeding fodder for a bit over 3 years now and have some of the best lamb/chicken/beef around! AND it is THE most economical way to feed (& the healthiest) available!
Anyway, we are loving our little farm and the adventures continue!
