My family had raised horses since , forever, I've been training since I was 11, I know that I know less now than I thought I did then!
I'm a stay at home mom of 2, my girl is 15, my boy is 14 and autistic. They are both from my first marriage, I can't have any more children, though my husband and I have been trying to adopt for 3 years now.
I've only had cattle for 5 years, raised chickens and rabbits (both pet and meat)for over 15, and I stopped breeding horses when the market crashed. (I bred and trained horses specifically for small size and gentle temperament fir children, beginners, husband horses, etc)I now only have 3 riding horses. Though I volunteered for a non profit Christian rescue for a couple years.
I'm working on starting with pigs and eventually want a dairy goat and a few sheep, but I don't have proper fencing yet.
We have 25 acres, so my pasture is micro managed for efficiency to support everyone, we started with a house in the middle of a pasture. No fences, no cross fences, no outbuildings. .. we have built everything from scratch, just the 4 of us, pallets are a great thing!
I garden and can, though we got flooded out this year, and my fruit trees are only 3 years old and still small, we butcher our own meat, but are lucky enough to have a processing company 5 miles from us for larger animals. We had to start cheap, my cows and bull were all bottle calves, sickly or injured, and we're only just starting to get a return on them, my second calf due in may! So far only one loss. In spite of the heartache, hard work, and financial blows, I couldn't imagine not having a farm. There is nothing in the world more rewarding and fulfilling!
