Ha ha yep but his fancy chlorine free water is not as good according to him. He needs to have that chemical filled city water

Because in the summer, they cost almost zero to feed. They eat almost 100% lawn grass, so keep the lawn perfectly trimmed. They are good at edging.

Also, they are so large that once full sized, I haven't had any deaths even when I free range them.

Last time I had them, I slaughtered them all once fall came.

This year I wanted to keep a breeding set.... so I am over-wintering them. The food cost, now that all grass is gone, is HORRIFIC!

Also, they are pretty cold hardy, which is nice.

Thank you for your insight into how good geese are to keep ... I've often considered having them. However, I would need to free-range them because of the other birds; their accommodation is becoming chaotic with 2 peafowl, 3 guineas (which I will free range soon), two chooks, and indian runner ducks (7 and babies coming; will be downsizing or selling them off all together?). So if I do get geese I will need to find out more about them, and let them free-range. We do have dingos, foxes and wild dogs; and I am told that geese will keep them off the property? Do geese eat plants in the garden, and are they a nuisance to the neighbours (noisy)? Thanks LInda

They would need secure night time housing. I don't have foxes, but in the day, they will square off with 1 or 2 dogs... more than that and the geese would lose. Or, a smart more predatory dog would probably just kill them all. So, guessing, you would have to be able to fence out the dingo.

The geese will eat the plants they like, and not the ones that they don't! They are noisy... but only when you let them out in the morning, or they see some danger. In general they are quiet. So, I would not think that you would have noise complaints with the neighbors. Peafowl are MUCH worse. Guineas are also worse.
