Forecast this afternoon was mid-seventies, overcast, 0% precipitation. Perfect. Then it started sprinkling rain on the drive home.

Great.

By the time I went outside to collect eggs and feed/water the sprinkling was infrequent, so I decided to try get more work done on the coop.

I untied one of my remnant HWC rolls, flattened it and started bending and molding it to fit on the left side of the door.

Then I started attaching it to the door frame.

And attaching it to the bottom frame.

As I was attaching the HWC to the frame I was also pulling it towards and around the corner. I attached it to the cattle panel with some zip-ties before I finished attaching it with screws and fender washers.

I kept playing with it until it was as tight as I could make it.

There was a very small gap on the corner so I attached a scrap of HWC over the opening.

I'll trim it next time, after securing the HWC with zip-ties. I'll need to do some trim and tighten on the right side, too, not a lot.

I still have the opening above the door to do, but it isn't big, a remnant of HWC should cover it. And I need to add an apron in the front. I could probably have the structure complete this weekend, might even get to work on the roof.

But the labor and time intensive work is all but done.
:yesss:

Whew.

Saturday Update, Part One

I did not work on the hoop coop Thursday after work, nor on Friday as I got overheated creating a trellis for my new clematis, so I determined to get outside early on Saturday and GET 'ER DONE!

I went outside just after 7am. Damp, mid 60s, good construction weather.

First on my agenda was the opening over the door.

I needed more height, brought out the ladder.

Hi squirrel!

I found a remnant of HWC, perfect size. When I started to bend it into shape some of the wires broke.
:barnie
So I had to use two pieces to cover the opening.

First piece in position.

Added second piece with a slight overlap, secured both

I used small pieces of HWC to "snake-proof" all weak points.

Can't use too many fender washers!
:D =D

Tightened up the HWC, no gaps!

I then finished securing the HWC over the rest of the hoop with zip-ties. I missed a couple at the apex, but will follow up later.

Next, the back of the coop...

Saturday Update, Part Two

I still needed to secure some loose sections of HWC around the door, but I decided to tackle the back of the coop first as it was a bigger project.

Brainstorm...scrap wood...

Drilled holes through wood

Attached the HWC to the back with screws and fender washers.

Screwed the wood pieces on the extruding screws. Then I tightened the screws, which worked for most of them.

Made adjustments as needed.

One piece of wood wanted to spin instead of tightening...I fixed it.

:yesss:

I was getting overheated at that point, so I put away my tools for the day. I didn't get the rest of the screws covered, but I still have more wood...

...and I had a thought. What if I screw plastic anchors onto the exposed screw points?
:pop

Next... finish apron, tighten and secure loose HWC, cut off zip-tie ends...and roof!

:celebrate

Consider -- will an electrical screw on cap cover the screw ends?

They come in lots of sizes & colors -- prob have them in your shed stashes. 🤣. Used to tie two wires together.
I know exactly what you are referring to. I think there might be some, somewhere.

Also, I was thinking of using plastic anchors, I have a gross of those. Okay, maybe just 3-4 dozen.

I'll see how I feel after church and proceed accordingly.

After church it was already over 90°. Nope. Not making myself sick working in that heat.

On the way home I did stop at Harbor Freight, picked up a heavy duty tarp (on sale!) in case the weather keeps me from adding a metal roof, at least until later. I also grabbed another bag of the slender 11" zip-ties (all I have left in 12" is the wide ones), and some metal zip-ties! Those are an option for the metal panels. Ace Hardware had 1" deck screws, yippee! I can replace the screws in the door that are protruding, and use them on the inside door handle as well. I also bought one of those, I cannot find another door handle in my hardware stash. I'm working on organizing it, but it's going to take some time.
