    Best mower for ROUGH terrain?

They are buried, but shallow enough that going over them with anything heavy is an issue. The zero-turn has been ok so far, but we have “found” a few with our ATV, so we’re very cautious.

    Best mower for ROUGH terrain?

Wait, you mean I shouldn’t be mowing “subterranean”? :ep I’m debating getting a “finishing mower” attachment, and then using that wherever (I think!) pipes aren’t... then hubby can mow the pipe areas (and around obstacles) with the zero turn? For a couple grand, though, I could just buy more...

    Best mower for ROUGH terrain?

This is exactly the kind of experience I wondered about - thanks!

    Best mower for ROUGH terrain?

All of my herd runs free in this area - (now) 15 goats, the three bottle lambs (almost weaned!), and the Kunekune pigs. The chickens get a few hours of free-ranging, too. One big happy family! My hubby is hoping the sheep like grass more than my goats. Maybe I feed everyone too well with their...

    Best mower for ROUGH terrain?

Hello everyone! We have about 4 acres around our house (not our pastures) that my husband diligently mows to keep the bugs down and the living pleasant. He has been using a 60” zero-turn gravely mower for 8 years which has held up fairly well. Unfortunately, it has been getting more and more...

    Hello from upstate South Carolina!

Welcome from Texas! I, too, am new to the “country life” having retired from a big-city suburb a few years ago. I love learning with my ND goats, Kunekune and pot belly pigs, Barbados lambs, assorted chickens and LGDs. This website has been a life-saver! So many great people. If you want to...

    Twins vs triplets?

Not sure if relevant, but my two singleton births are SO MUCH MORE ACTIVE than the three sets of twins. Those singletons have been out racing the fence line, jumping the boxes, and generally goat-crazy since almost day one. The twins are catching up, but it took them a while (everyone is about...

    My first goat labor!

i use Retriever dog kennel panels from Tractor Supply. I buy the kennels when I get their % off anything promotions (or on Craigslist) - they end up being cheaper than the 10ft interlocking farm panels, and they’re small enough for me to maneuver on my own. I love em!

    C&D Farming..oh what a life!

I “win over” pigs with fig newtons! (Aldi’s brand is CHEAP). They gave a strong smell that gets the piggie’s attention (better than, say, animal crackers). They’ll be nibbling them out of your hand in no time! (Especially once the first one figures it out - the others won’t want to miss out!)...

    Management of bucklings

I have 8 ND kids that are all ~2weeks old (4 bucklings/4 doelings). A couple of the bucklings are getting quite rowdy, mounting the doelings and generally causing some havoc. I plan to wether them all. I’d like to let the moms nurse and wean them all at 4 months-ish (I don’t milk the goats and...

Bottle fee lambs not wanting to wean

I’ve read previous posts about weaning, so here was my plan: My 5 week old barbado ewe triplets love their bottles! They were taking about 30oz per day (12, 6, 12 - they just ate less at lunch. Go figure). So, a few days ago I dropped the midday bottle. They drink water from the bowl, I’ve seen...

I've gone and done it. now that I've go 'em what do I feed 'em??

My Kunekunes get a “sow and pig” feed twoce daily, plus scrambled yolks every couple days (I only eat egg whites - but a lot of ‘em!-, so I save all the yolks and scramble them up, then divvy between the dogs, pigs, and chickens!). They love “pig newtons” (aka fig newtons) for a treat. My girls...

Introducing myself and my nerd herd! :)

Welcome from Texas! I don’t envy your winters (but I suspect I’d love your summers compared to ours!!). Glad to have you here.

I just want to introduce myself

Another welcome from Texas (we’re a friendly bunch!)! Great info and people here. I have 2 pot belly and 4 kunekune sows, a bunch of ND goats (just had babies!), ???chickens, and three Barbados lambs. And 3 LGDs. Lots of good fun to be had! Welcome!

    Probiotic for kunekune pigs?

Thanks! I’d read people giving it to their dogs, but not pigs (or chickens for that matter!). I try to keep everyone as healthy as I can. :)
