    No BEE section?

My grandfather kept bees, and I am interested in keeping them in the future (though I do not have the space for them right now). There's lots of ways to sort through bee keeping, such as the variety of bee, the type of hive used, and all the different uses for honey, wax, and other by-products...

    Considering buying a bunny

Just two weeks I purchased my first rabbit. She herself does not smell, but her pee is pretty foul. I find myself changing her litter box every couple of days. Also, if you feed hay, whatever room you keep her cage and food in will smell like hay. As far as training goes, I just waited until...

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

Wow this summer has just flown by! As far as my garden goes, it's been doing great! I froze about 2-3 pounds of shelled peas, D got to enjoy several bunches of radishes, and we tried swiss chard for the first time (it tastes like beets). We ate many a salad from the garden, but I struggled with...

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

I’m afraid not much is going on at this time. The Brussels sprouts and all but one cauliflower failed, but that’s still better than last year. The broccoli is doing well, and so is the Swiss Chard. The lettuce is thriving, and the celery is still alive, so I have hope for it. The beets never...

Why are American Chinchilla Rabbits so hard to find?

Thanks! I've got my fingers crossed that some of the local kits will show strong show-qualities. I'm diving into with this ambition!

Why are American Chinchilla Rabbits so hard to find?

I think I might have found someone near by, and a ARBA is hosting a show near this summer. So hopefully I can come up with a few quality animals in the near future.

    Anybody Spin with Drop Spindles?

Drop spindle spinning isn't hard at all, especially if you take your time. It does take a lot of practice to get it to come out smoothly and evenly though. I've been learning how for several months now, and when I compare what I started with to what I can do now, it's almost embarrassing.

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

I’m in regular contact with an American Chinchilla breeder now, so I am so excited! She’ll have a litter of kits ready for sale around mid May, and additional litters in the future. I have my fingers crossed that one of the does will grow into a quality show animal. I also found another...

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

I’m having the worst luck finding someone to sell me an American Chinchilla rabbit! I really cannot afford to take a long trip to go pick one up myself, so I am hoping one will come to me. This July, there will be an ARBA show in Charlotte, MI and I have talked my husband into taking me. I don’t...

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

Over the weekend I went out and bought a few 2mil clear painting drop cloths, which I then cut up and draped over several wire supports to make row covers for my plants, to protect them from any frost that might come for the rest of the month. Afterward, I planted out my broccoli, cauliflower...

    dual purpose rabbits?

You could eat some of the angoras if you want, but I can't imagine they grow quickly or develop much flesh with so much energy going to theri coats, though they are large enough. Perhaps you could consider getting a few meat-type does (like new zealands or californians), and breeding your...

    dual purpose rabbits?

Classically the "fiber" rabbits are the angoras, which you brush and pluck to get hair to spin into yarn. If by "fiber" you mean skins, you should choose a breed with pelts that appeal to you. The standard Rex is a popular fur rabbit, since it has it's unique velvet like fur. The Satin is also...

Why are American Chinchilla Rabbits so hard to find?

Lucky! I live in SE Michigan, and I'm willing to drive to almost anywhere in MI, OH, and IN, but WV would be an entire weekend trip for me. :( Do you know if she ships or ever goes to shows in MI, OH, IN? Does she have a website, or does she go by word-of-mouth? Does she show her rabbits?

Why are American Chinchilla Rabbits so hard to find?

I've contacted at least 10 different breeders in my area that claim to have American Chinchilla Rabbits only to be told they no longer breed them or they never return my emails. I realize their a critically endangered breed (one of the reasons they interest me) but they seem to be all over the...

    Elyssia001 - Homestead Adventure Journal

Saturday was an ugly day. The wind was high and cold, and the sky was dark and gloomy all day. But I convinced D to go to Lowes with me so I could buy a roll of landscaping fabric, wire, and clear plastic sheets. While we were there, we also foun a bamboo wind chime, which I have wanted to add...

WTB - SE MI - American Chinchilla Rabbit

I'm looking for a breeder in Michigan, Northern Ohio, or Northern Indiana who can sell me a registered purbred American Chinchilla rabbit. I'm not worried about the gender at this time, but I would like the rabbit to be under a year old. I'd like to get into rabbit raising, but first I would...
