@Bunnylady ,
I picked up a new puzzle today!
Is she a chocolate agouti?
Also, what gene gives her her white feet? Both of her parents are solid. She is supposedly 3/4 NZ and 1/4 Flemmish... But I got her from the same lady that I got Hosta from (the broken blue with otter that's supposed...
Thank you! Your knowledge and helpful advice is greatly appreciated! I usually use staw instead of hay, but on nest box placing day I found a little mold in my bale of straw. What is your favorite nesting material?
@Baymule ,
I live near the Finley River. I have several useful native trees on the property - Hawthorn, pawpaw, honey locust, black walnut, and elderberry. I have five varieties of blackberries, and a large Rosa rugosa thicket.
I have just reserved a trio of pedigreed American Blues that I will be picking up in the middle of January along with a pedigreed rex buck to go with the rex doe that I have! Soo... I have decided that it is time to register my rabbitry with the ARBA! The only thing is, my rabbitry does not...
They seem dry and warm, just icky, stained, and crusty.
I hope she does not do it again, it's supposed to get pretty chilly tonight. Do you think that she will clean them back up?
A little while ago when I went to check Wendy's litter, I found the kits covered in dried urine! I don't know if Wendy peed on them or if they peed on each other, but either way, she doesn't seem to be cleaning them as she should. I haven't ever seen this before... Usually my mammas keep their...
Is an older animal fit to eat? The only other senior I have culled was a 3 year old doe that failed to breed three times in a row and she's still in my freezer so I have not tried to cook an older animal yet.
I usually breed three does at a time so I can foster as needed... I have even kept two does in my herd that usually only have 2-4 kits just for that purpose... I don't reserve any of the little litter kits though, because I sellect for large litter sizes. Both my nursemaid does are half Angora...
Thanks guys. The only offspring I have saved from from him is a doe from his first litter with me. After thinking about y'alls comments I don't know if I even want to breed her now. I just really liked the growth rate of his litters, but if he's going to cause so much trouble I reckon that...
I keep a small herd of meat rabbits to supply my family with inexpensive and healthy meat, and myself with furs for craft projects.
I won't say that processing days do not bother me at all, but I have gotten pretty good at not getting attached to any rabbits that I have bred with the intentions...
I have kit catchers on my nest boxes to keep the does from accidentally pulling out kits that may still be latched on. Is there anything else that I can do to help prevent this from happening in the future?
I save and sell the best and I eat the rest.
My Flemish doe and my Rex doe and one NZ buck are the only purebreds I have. The rest are meat muts that I have selected for rapid weight gain on natural fodder, large litter size, and good fur quality.
