Well......while we are still a free nation it is up to us to stand up for our rights and liberties as they try to chip away at them to make us a socialist or communist nation.
One person CAN make a difference if we will but take a stand.
This affects those in NH and I hope some of those will...
They want to make mandatory rabies shots by a state veterinarian and license and register your horses at the town level at $25 each. Do you think they will stop at horses? All farm animals are at risk of this government intrusion into our private lives again.
Check out nhequestrians.com and...
What is good to use for arthritis as I believe our 16 yr. old Highland bull has to watch him get up a bit on the slow side. Any natural remedies or particular products we could get to help him through the winter?
We have an 8 mo. old Highlander and am thinking of getting a smaller horse to keep her company plus for my granddaughter. Does anybody have any experience with keeping the two together. We are looking at a Halflinger which is a small sturdy horse.
Just curious.
This is a bit of a heart breaker:
I am tentatively considering a companion for my 8 month old heifer who is weaned and in a paddock by herself; however in the next paddock is her pregnant mother and an unrelated 13 year old breeding bull.
Making him a steer is always an option but should have...
OK: now the husband has to reply.
Bull, pregnant cow, and calf are being given 40 to 60 lbs of hay a day split between them (sq. bale, and loose 2nd cut from a round bale).
The two grown ups get 2 lbs grain a day each of a mixture of sweet 16 course and pressed corn. The 8 month old calf gets 1...
No.....they are getting at least a pound of grain each. We are located in NH. We were told by the previous owner that he didn't give them grain but they did have plenty of hay. I do go out there with treats like carrots and bagels but that is not much.
I too believe they should have hay at...
My husband and I are having issues over how much to feed our 3 Highlanders as we are new to all of this. We purchased a 6 year old female due to calf in the spring.....her 8 mo. old heifer, and just recently a 13 yr. old bull.
My husband thinks just feeding a bit of hay in the morning and...
Can cows see at night? We separated our heifer from her pregnant Mom today....though their fences are adjacent so hasn't been too bad. But I heard the Mom bellowing a bit tonight and wondered if she could see her offspring. :)
The mom is a red highlander and the heifer is white so I would...
Have been traming the wild beasts (Highlanders) cow and calf with three double handfulls of grain at the end of the day.
The cow gets two double handfulls in two differant tubs so the calf has time to eat her portion without get rocked by a 34" spread of horns.
My grain is a mixture of 'milk...
Have a fold of two Highlanders - another hopefully due in the spring.
The six year old mother was field exposed to a bull this past spring, assuming she is pregnant; it's a good time (Oct) to wean the six month old calf that is still with her.
Mom is starting to push the calf away on her own...
Thanks so much......we can breathe a bit easier now and get back to them apples.
We were told they get drunk because they have one stomach and the apples ferment in there causing gas that they can't expel causing bloat.
But we aren't dumping piles for them to eat just a handful.
Thanks for...
My husband and I also have a pregnant Highlander and calve we purchased early this summer. Now that the garden has gone by we have no more corn stalks with corn to feed them that they seemed to love to eat with no ill effects. Though we did break the big corns for the 7 mo. old calf.
We also...
