Playing catch up here. Just realized the last set of twins didn't get posted here.
SO -- born 11/02 Black Cap (my black ewe with a white "hat") sold in a group to me as a dorper (can she be?? no idea) - had a set of ewe twins. Adorable black with a cap, white rear socks, and white "target" on...
On second cup. Got a full night's sleep (Tuesday night I didn't stay up like @Baymule - but woke every 15-30 minutes to check the count). While I didn't get all I wanted done yesterday (the catch up list is huge), I did get all the lambs remarked with the crayons to match up to mamas, and got...
GOOD MORNING! 🇺🇲 :celebrate
On cup two, weather is great (though Santa Ana about to blow in), things are getting manageable finally.
Looking to get my sheep/lamb records straight and written down in the book rather than on magnetic erase
boards.
Well YAY --- 🇺🇲

The Boxer puppy thing - man ya' got me. Haven't heard the same about the litter down here as far as timing and placement, but haven't heard exactly either. Though --- that litter also ended up with that parasite as well. While the genetics are good...
In all the herding facilities it's the black headed ones that are used. I have a feeling that perhaps it's the amount of handling they get perhaps? The difference between a producers flock and a training flock?? Once the herding facilities settle on a breed or type it takes a lot to change them...
Thanks! It's all a learning experience for me. Loving the journey - LOL and seeing how I evolve in the whole process. LOL dog training others to less and less of that and more and more of lambing.
When I moved here in 89 the gal I learned a lot from had polypays and rambouillet Over the years she has switched to hair sheep - going to the barbs and barb crosses, can't remember after that, and then dorpers, black headed ones. That's pretty much what she has now as well as most people here...
Ahhhh, finding my way back to regular life. The last of the pups left yesterday. He is now in GA, the first left last Wednesday and now in IL, the third stays with me. Lots of work went into the three of them. By 8 weeks they all knew how to walk on leash, sit when told, lay down, come when...
Things here are finally simmering down enough for me to truly check in here and what do I see but your update!! I've been wondering how you were doing. OH MAN that lamb is gorgeous! But we all know I'm into the eyecandy at the moment. LOL must be a phase in doing sheep. One more ewe to lamb here...
I didn't have much time to think about that - though the thought did cross my mind. With guests (puppy people) coming for three days I x-nayed that idea as the ewe with the single was one that I had to tie up last go around to let her lamb nurse. She was better this time, but still made the lamb...
WOW, you've been through the mill and back with all that. Looks like a step into a new adventure! Always fun.
Too funny, around here white dorpers have a psycho reputation. At least those that use them for dog training and herding trials. Personally, I don't see a difference. I've worked with...
