The kids I saved last week---I had them in the tub directly, submerged up to their necks, and kept rubbing them for a good 30-40 minutes, rerunning the water as it cooled. Then, they were blow dried very very thoroughly and given a dose of Nutridrench because it was what I had on hand...
If the hoof rot is severe, she will need both topical treatments (copper sulfate soaks are great) and some sort of antibiotic. What does it looks like? Smell?
I was just out today doing hooves on a few gals and one had some mild irritation so we soaked it in a mild bleach solution after...

Here it is. With being previously loaded down and now bleeding, I would treat for both parasites and anemia.
Not yet really--my 4 year old niece named one Zuma because he has on collar the color of some character she likes, and I keep calling one fluffy girl (the biggest one). I figure we will start giving out nicknames as their personality appears. One of them in particular seems ultra laid back and...
Valentines Day and pups all have their eyes open and are getting more and more active. Olive decided she needed a mommy break today though and figured out how to open the man door, jump the gate, and play in the mainway of the barn for awhile before hopping back into the nursery pen. Silly...
x2 on the above--I don't mean to sound harsh and hope it doesn't read that way. Just would hate for you to have this take a bad turn.
I am wondering if he is actually older than 2-3 weeks. My bottle kids don't really eat hay or grain until much older. My dam raised kids will start to nibble...
In addition, antibiotics kill off the good with the bad and may worsen digestive issues when the gut flora are destroyed. A few antibiotics are not recommended for growing kids because they can stunt bone growth (edited to add specifically LA200).
Not all dewormers kill all worms so he could...
It really depends on what he has going on. If it is a parasite issue, the medications are dependent on the type of parasite. For cocci, we use dimethox which is not at TSC and is currently unavailable nationally--CoRid is not a great option for cocci so a vet would be needed for a sulfa drug...
That gut instinct is there for a reason I say. If it felt off, it probably was. Some people do the deposit thing and it is fine, but if it made you uneasy, I always say to trust that feeling.
They are doing fairly well today. Pretty boy has one weak back leg and was given a small dose of selenium and vitamin paste. Otherwise, he has had a strong recovery and I anticipate the leg will be fine a few days.
Two more kids were born today and Andy did great with them so yay for that...
She is a first freshener, and in my opinion, old for it at two years. She did not take the first time we bred her and then we got a bit sidetracked with the move. Boy, she better not pull this again or I might just have myself a new rug.
Rotten Ruthie indeed!! I was so mad at her.
The doeling is a traditional red Boer and the buckling is quite handsome, white, red and gray spots. I will get pics---tomorrow.
I slept almost all day today.
What a night. I came down with some stomach bug halfway through work today and was just holding it together until I could get home. I crawled into my car and the phone rang--mom could see on her barn cam that one of her does had blood on her side and she was going to be a little bit before she...
Louie really is a good boy too. Very very gentle with the tiniest goats, adores children, but can flip that switch to defense when he needs to. We have him eating a bit extra right now to gain back the pounds he dumped when Olive was in heat. Poor guy was so in love he wouldn't touch food...
