Oh yeah. That gate is the second door into the room. It has that thick hardware cloth attached to it. It is just to keep hooves and paws off the other door. I need to get a shot of the doggy door that leads outside.
I am so excited!
This might be a bit tricky but you can probably at least get him to be calmer and let you handle him easier. Since he is new, quarantine is always a good bet anyway. Move him into small pen, one that he eat, drink, move in but not so big that he can run away. Then spend time with him. Talk...
I am sorry to hear about that. She has to be uncomfortable. If her eye is ulcerated, it needs to be vet treated and probably removed before the infection spreads. That is not something I would ever take on as an at home procedure. I have to imagine that it would be a bit costly too, and you...
It could be injured, could have something in it, which might make infection possible. Can you flush the eye with a sterile saline solution? Then use a flashlight to get a good look at it, looking for debris, or a rip.
Your doe is in heat. The noise he is making is flirting. First time I heard it, I was cracking up. Wethers, despite not being able to get the doe pregnant, will still flirt and mount does in heat. Fortunately, they are less likely to pee on themselves and smell far less strongly than an...
I think they did a necropsy but only to see if there was any further cell growth. They were young too and I still wonder if a few more months might see any evidence of cell repair and regrowth.
Hi and welcome!!
Glad to hear the vet thinks she is okay. Does she seem to be limping or just laying down a lot? Looks like you should be having some kids bouncing around there soon.
If in the wild, they could browse at will, eating wild grain heads, woody plants, and whatever suited their fancy. Milk production might not be optimal in those that don't get it, which means less or lower quality milk for kids and more nutrition getting pulled from the dam's body to produce...
@Southern by choice that is my thinking too--I would try this out on my wethered Boers because they are only going to be around for a year. And I agree--a bigger, more long term study would be nice. Maybe we can put it together ourselves ;)
I have three breeds--Pygmy, Nigerian Dwarf, and Boer. My pygmy is my love, but she is lazy, eats more than the NDs, and has attitude. She cuddles and is so sweet, but is not as entertaining as my NDs simply because they are lighter and bounce around, while she eats and takes naps.
Some will lose bits of the plug over the course of a month. Ligaments are really helpful. Keep feeling and you will get the hang of it-once they are gone, you will have a EUREKA moment. They do feel like bone almost. I think they feel like pencils.
