Take a round file and file a notch on both sides of the horn at the base to let the band sit down in. Then wrap it up with duct tape to keep it on.
Good luck.
We feed all of our growing kids a balanced feed. Half cup in morning and half cup in evening sounds fine.
Orchard/Alfalfa hay is fine.
As to the 5-6 week old, that's a little too young for weaning in my opinion.
Sadly, we lost Climate Control. We had to have her put down, not sure what was wrong with her, other than age.
Things are going good. Enjoying the beef from Rachel's steer project Drake. Rachel is good. Working some but not too much. :-)
We did show at our normal Memorial Day weekend show...
A new member @newchick101 was asking about feeding her Alpines, and I shared how much we fed and the difficulty in keeping weight on these girls. I did not mention that ours are pretty heavy milker's so that adds to the difficulty. This 4 year old Togg's dam Climate Control finished 3rd in the...
Let me give you some back ground. We have yearling Togg and a 4 year old Togg. And then two 2 year old Togg/Alpine crosses that are in milk and two kids. They are living with about 35 Nigerian Dwarfs. The standards get fed in mass with all of the others, and then eat on the milk stand.
I...
I don't think I'm one to copy, we tend to leave ours way too long to avoid milking. I've got some Alpine/Togg crosses that are still nursing at 6 months.
People do wean standard goats at 8 weeks, but I think 10-12 is better.
Since it's done, I would give them free choice feed.
Alpines can be on...
I posted these pictures on Facebook and a friend messaged me. He noticed that brisquet in the middle of the first picture and asked if we would be interested in selling it. There are two pieces, so I think we are going to sell him one for the 4th of July.
We've raised two steers a couple years ago, so we've done it before. My wife's dad raised them for years. This was our first show steer. My daughter is 18 so it will be our last. Will just stick with goats for show.
But, will definitely raise beef again.
We didn't get a meat in the freezer weight. His hanging weight was 63%.
It's interesting, the extension agent told Maurine he needed more finishing, maybe 200 lbs. Tim at the slaughter house said he was perfect. He was very complimentary to Maurine. Said he was much better than most he sees...
That's why you fence them.
There is plenty to eat in the woods right now. They are probably within a square mile or so.
We hosted linear appraisal once, and one of the people who attended, let their Alpine doe get loose. She stayed on the run for about a week before we eventually got her...
If you need to verify who a sire is. Let's say a doe get's in with the bucks and she ends up bred and you don't know who the sire is.
I think ADGA has also put in a new rule that as of a certian date, all bucks DNA will have to be on file to register them.
The only way to register a Nigerian Dwarf is if both the dam and sire is registered.
The OP said the dam isn't registered, so the kids can't be registered.
