    Rotational Grazing on 2 Acres?

@Margali has some good stock. She bamboozled her sweet husband into a trip to the far side of Oklahoma for some lovely ewes to add to her flock. You will learn there is practically no limit to where we will go for SHEEP! LOL Go to the sheep forums, start with the first topic and start reading...

Help me determine is my sheep have started “showing” in their pregnancies

I keep one of my rams next to the lot of ewes. Cow panels separate them, I have a half cow panel gate between them. No need to block off the cow panels, I’ve never had a breeding through the wire, nor know anyone who has. That gate comes in handy. Ewes in heat will throw themselves at the wire...

Help me determine is my sheep have started “showing” in their pregnancies

One of my night lots is approximately 32’x48’ and right now 12 pregnant ewes are comfortable there. It has a cow panel hoop shelter, using 3 cow panels plus a small animal Quonset hut. I bought this place in July 2022. I had to put up fence and built cow panel pens so I could move my sheep. I...

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

Keep the old tractor seat. A welder can put legs on it with large washers for the “feet” and make you a family heirloom barstool.

    Rotational Grazing on 2 Acres?

Is there a shelter or barn? If not you could put up a 3 sided shelter in the center and divide the field in the sections you want. That way, water, feed , hay and shelter would be in one spot versus moving water all the time. Or make central location at fence closest to house for water...

    Mini donkeys 11 months

If you wanted pets, 2 geldings would probably be best. You will have to have a farrier to trim their hooves every 6-8 weeks. They need small amounts of feed, free choice hay and grass. If your birds free range, donkeys could stomp them to death, or maybe not. Only way to find out is to get a...

    NEW TO THE "HERD"

I’m in East Texas. I’m 174 miles from Galveston and the Gulf of Mexico. Lots of forest here, lush green grass unless we are in drought, LOL. I’m between Lufkin and Crockett. I don’t have ducks now, but the runner ducks I had were prolific layers.

    Coffee anyone ?

Coffee is ready. Cold here this morning at 42F degrees! The sun is shining, it will warm up. We are unseasonably warm but I’m not complaining. Haven’t turned on the heat yet, it’s 64 inside but it will warm up later. Couldn’t go to sleep until after 1 AM, slept till 6:49. Going to graze young...

Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog RIP 11-11-24

Yesterday I lost it. I’ve been trying to keep it together but the dam broke. I bawled, sobbed and the tears rolled. Where was my huggy boy? When BJ died and I finally got the strength to make it to the sheep barn, I spent hours there. Sentry was right by my side. I hugged him while tears rolled...

Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog RIP 11-11-24

Thanks yall. Sentry had so much heart, so smart and so much wisdom. To make it worse, BJ and I picked him out together. We made the decision to have the femoral head ostectomy surgery and months of therapy. We both loved him. Losing Sentry is losing another piece of BJ that I can never get back...

Sentry, Baymule’s Livestock Guard Dog RIP 11-11-24

Sentry was ill once again with a mysterious illness that the vets have never been able to identify. He died Monday November 11, 2024. I have fought for him, beginning with hip dysplasia surgery when he was only 9 months old. He nearly died 2 years ago from sickness that the vets couldn’t...

Help me determine is my sheep have started “showing” in their pregnancies

I have to dry lot my sheep at various times of year to let the grass grow, or for drought, etc. When I let them out on the grass, first I give them hay, some feed and a feed pan of baking soda. Then I let them out. I put my sheep up at night anyway because of coyote pressure. Easier for dogs to...

    Alaskan's Journal

When I pick up my monthly four 50 pound bags of dog food, I put them in the back seat of my little car. It’s easier to get them out. I park close to back door, have 4 steps up to utility room. Last run to the feed store, I bought feed in a super bag. I backed truck up to the portable building...

Coffee is ready. It’s foggy outside, coyotes were howling and sounded way too close last night. My dogs howl with the coyotes. LOL

Help me determine is my sheep have started “showing” in their pregnancies

Your hay and winter grass sounds ok. My winter grass is finally coming up, it should’ve been big enough to graze on by now, but drought. It finally rained. You might want to add some white ball clover along with the rye grass. Put out baking soda when they graze it to prevent bloat.
