@Ridgetop Wow, those are multimillion dollar properties up where we're stuck looking. And I can't find normal houses like that. It's all giant box McMansion houses built to maximize resale value rather than practicality and heating/cooling/cleaning efficiency. And at those prices we could dig...

Out of the corner of my eye yesterday I caught the terminal mini saanen/lamancha cross buckling picking a new mommy. This morning his real mommy is more even and the new mommy is lopsided. :barnieWhen anyone dam raises in my herd a lot of my goats have no concept of "raise your own brat". The...

    Baymule’s 2024 Lambing plus 12-23

Wow, big ram compared to mom! Are all lambs that big? He looks like a bum bruiser!

Tonight was the workshop on the "banning all agricultural animals" ordinance. City residents filled the fire station and were standing out on the lawn when there was no more room. Wisely, city officials announced they are dropping the proposed ordinance. Otherwise they may have gotten the modern...

Pete doesn't want it to grow back too quick. He seems to think he wants another year of breeding all my does. ;)

*Sigh* so this is Pete. Pete had a bald spot on his neck. So I treated him with Ultraboss, 2x, a week apart, down each side of his spine, one side one week, and one the other. I'd like to point out that his neck bald spot healed and grew in and his coat is thick again-EXCEPT for where I striped...

Probably, but not for a while. Not a good time for software programmers right now. This is an interesting step for DH. He's picking the place and forcing work to work. I think if they tried to move him again after he goes home he'd quit and be working for someone else regardless of timing.

    ISO pulsating milking machine

Do this. It is a diy simple pulse. I'd put the pulsator last personally though. I don't want my vacuum gauge pulsating.

Austin, Boston, Seattle, or a multi million dollar area of Virginia technically (boss wants him in Virginia, DH is paid good but not THAT kind of good). He's taking a risk going to where his co-workers are living, but he's willing to quit and work somewhere else after a looooong career there...

*I'm letting other people spread the word on FB groups. The aldermen are going after them on all the local groups. I'm not in the mood for a personal attack from a stranger. Sorry for being vapid, today I have a cold and the boys are on spring break so it's a regular party breaking up fights...

    hi

Hi, Welcome! :frow You should put your approximate location in your "about" section of your profile so you can find if there are BYHers near you. Also, with farming a lot of information is regionally relevant, so if you ever need to pick anyone's brain for information to help you on your pursuit...

We're not the main target here, but they could fit 3 2 million dollar mcmansion lots in our 6 acre lot and the planning comission has already said they want to re-zone it and the wheat field across the street and our neighbor's houses to the "dense" McMansion zoning. These aren't even lower...

YEP. That is what's going on. Get rid of the "undesirables". Buy up their discounted land made worthless. Build more 2 acre lot mcmansions with extra lawn.

We do have cow or calf out alerts on our local news, but for them it's like...if it bothers you move out of the country and go back to nashville/springfield/clarksville??? And it's usually related to an electric or barbed wire fence not working for the little or teen cows, maybe occasionally an...

I planted farmer Jan's idea on one of the fB threads and now it's being repeated. I think a few of the impacted are mad enough to do it. DH thinks our rep is a clown and would side with the town, so I'm not sure it will do much, but a reporter is now involved and is doing a story. Not sure how...

Thanks. I'll chat with the other half about this later today. If he thinks this is a good idea we'll do that. Some of these people that will suffer from this are my acquaintances and they deserve better than to have their way of life taken away. They're the way this area was when I lived here as...

I get the impression that's the direction we'd go if Mark and the kids didn't have unmet needs. I honestly hope some does it. The sadder thing is, we're not even who this is aimed at. There are a lot of older farmers, well advanced into their "prime" years who want to farm until the day they...

*warning, complaining ahead* Man, watching my "town" fall is really sad. Photos snuck from the planning commission's workshop on the new ordinance have surfaced, thanks to a lady who runs a local apothecary. The mayor and aldermen really want to get this ban on animal agriculture through before...
