Kidding season is OVER.
Pete is a mega daddy (not of the above kid, the buck behind him is he sire of the kid up there).
Snowflake had gold buck/doe twins. I let her keep the buck and she's not a dummy.
Iris is on the edge of keytosis/toxemia and despite being fully dilated couldn't kid until...
Let's check back with her in a week. She's still not milking out right. She's got that edema feeling and the area around the base of the teat is still indented.
And then she wants ME to milk her 24/7 any time she lays eyes on me.
She's pretty, but I'm not cute little baby goat.
Not sure what to make of her teats though. I think there's some edema to get over and then we can wait to see how she stretches. Permanent outie teats don't stay...
Lily does not remember her kid anymore (he's doing great now). He remembers her and did a little dance and was so happy to see her. And she ran away. Poor guy. My other does will take their kids or ANY kid for about a month after kidding. I'm not smitten with Lily's udder so far so she may be...
Yeah, I don't think you want long lactations just for kid raising. That would be mastitis waiting on the wings. They're perfect for their purpose. Dwarves are often marketed dishonestly either innocently because that's what they've been told or less innocently because it's a profitable business...
I suspect mom beat him up and wasn't letting him sleep. He's doing fine now and is on a Pritchard now and took 6 oz of colostrum replacer and still wanted more this morning. Oh well, I guess I'll raise him.
Lily's buckling is inside for the night because he was flailing his legs and flipping on his back over and over again in a weird way and seemed to be getting weaker and weaker and hitting his head on the barn wall and mom was responding by pawing bedding up and totally burying him...
No, just dwarves. I won't start too far on what I don't like about those non-dairy goats, but the minis make it tolerable and produce twice as much with the same or nearly as much butterfat and protein and at least the ones I've had tend to stay in milk for a whole lactation instead of being...
Jealous does with baby fever doing baby talk at the fence.
(Aka stealers.)
I think if we continue to stay negative I may breed for dam raising next year. That ought to be a thrilling adventure.
Lily is not this rumpy (she's positioning the kid here), but here's her udder profile. I'm going to need to evaluate her udder over the next few weeks to decide if she's worth it as a mini maker.
Around noon 90 pound, 2 yr old Lily finally got her single buck lined up so we could have a big, serious tug of war. That's it, I'm buying a dwarf buck or two. And if I don't want a standard kid out of it, they get minis. And to Lily l, I said, screw it, you're raising your market buck. She's...
Cow is greedy enough he needs supervision or her bites up the other kids lips and eats their share...and he's listed for sale. He's out of Little Orchard CD Hera and by Lucky*Star's LL Pete so hopefully someone wants him. He's very nice but more intense than I prefer. Also he's the only buck...
That is "Exotica". Thanks for asking. The flowers are smaller than some of my jumbo flowers, but I like how it looks "glowy" to quote one of the kids.
I guess I could post more pics of them as they bloom. They've been doing really well lately.
The last two years it's been up and down alternating chilly and almost too warm here. I'd offer to share but I'm not sure I like it! It can't be good for the goats' systems.
Confessing on the record that my free choice milk lambar experiment was ruined by the fact that we randomly get up to almost 80 in February and I've switched them to 2x daily and clean the buckets. The kids are really big though, so in a colder climate I probably could and would have nicer...
Problem is, we personally are not lower income than they are and we can afford a lawyer. It would be a losing battle though. We'd win for our farm because the laws should protect us and we would be in the "right", but they'd find a way to make us miserable, much like in Mass.
