Oh Baymule, people are MAD. The townies are excited to build the coffin for their rural neighbors so they can fill the area with people and houses like theirs and FINALLY get some big city amenities (not happening, the schools here stink) and they seem to feel the farmers are finally getting...

Ridgetop - our place and how we muddle along

Ouch. I know enough anatomy I can see the missing spaces and where things are probably grinding just as part of living. Our dogs being mortal seriously stinks.

Well, the town is blowing up today on social media (all the while local politicians point fingers, tell everyone everything they don't like is "slander" (written word is called libel) and threaten lawsuits, and tell people not to get info from social media all the while only providing info on...

The right to farm law is weak and really protects commercial farmers following GAMPS here, but yes, someone could get their lawyer to sue the town. It is TN though and nobody has money and people do whatever they want regardless of laws. We might try if we have to. If someone decides we are...

My heart is heavy tonight. We never get a rest. The city council in the hardly a town that I live in, that only formed to keep a landfill out 10-15 years ago, is proposing legislation to ban breeding of livestock, selling any animals or their products for any sort of financial gain. You can not...

My first ND x Lamancha breeding

I don't have mini lamanchas yet, but my mini saanens are like lifted dwarves. They have a slightly larger than dwarf body with longer legs and are about 110-130 pounds. The 50:50's are more like 80-110 lbs. Better feed efficiency, easier to keep weight on, CREAMY milk, much better than dwarf...

My first ND x Lamancha breeding

Any of them. Depends on the doe and how those genes combine. I've had 7 lbs minis born. A lot of people report 4-6 pounders. So...I guess you can have kids from nigerian dwarf size up to standard size kids. Which is NOT helpful at all, really.

Hi, thanks! When I machine milk I'm using a capralite machine (w/simple pulse inflations) hooked up to various size milk buckets usually, but I'm hand milking from behind too...it kind of depends on what I feel like washing. I like teats and udders that let me easily milk from the back. And...

Hopefully I'll have the nice feed. It hasn't been ordered yet. Here's a pic to decorate the thread since I haven't been doing it much. The migraines this year have been something else. Summer likes cleaning up everyone else's leftovers.

After laboring all day yesterday and all night Elsa kidded a 10 pound buck via a hard pull. She was in rough shape. I waited around an hour, bumped her, checked, et c and went in and took care of the kid. At 8 am (I slept in after staying up all night with hourly checks thinking that was it) I...

Putting out cold milk lamb bars 24/7 (with a scoop of pasteurized milk yogurt mixed in) is a way to raise that's catching on in the show goat community lately. The herd I bought my nubian and one lamancha buckling from raised kids that way and they were huge and well grown and continued to grow...
