Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

So no one has ever experienced an anomaly like this? You probably have the most rabbitry experience around here @Bunnylady , do you have any thoughts about this?

    What color is this rabbit?

I'd assume it's your buck since you say he's had red kits with two separate does.

    What color is this rabbit?

    I'm stumped. @Bunnylady

    What color is this rabbit?

That's just baffling. Are you sure the litter only has one sire? Did you foster a kit and forget?

    What color is this rabbit?

Are you 100% sure he's the sire of the litter?

LOL, I'm the one who got you derailed. We do that a lot around here, it's ok.

    What color is this rabbit?

He's an non extension red agouti which should not be possible with two blacks. Two copies of the steel gene will make a false black.

Rabbits are awesome... I'd never swear off rabbits. I do need to thin out my herd though, it's getting a little out of hand and I'm tired of building hutches and cages.

Why have you sworn off of rabbits?

Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

Yes. This is the fourth litter they have produced for me. There have never been any issues with them before. She usually has giant litters of fat healthy babies. The only thing odd about any of them is about half the does she produces have an extra pair of nipples. This is her smallest...

Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

The dad is a normal single gene broken tort. I'm baffled. I've never even seen a true charlie with that much white. :hu

Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

Here are some pics of the ear deformity. Another not so disturbing abnormality in this litter is a very unusual looking false charlie. The mother is a chestnut and had never produced a kit like this before.

I have only found one picture on Google that really looks like it so far, and it's an older rabbit. It's the Siamese colored rabbit about 2/3 of the way down the page. http://www.rabbitadvocacy.com/rescue_in%20memory.htm

It hadn't been chewed. I'll get a picture in a little bit when I get done with my tomato canning project I'm working on.

    Aggression in young bucks?

I agree that if they are truly aggressive that they won't grow out of it, but even rabbits that are not agressive to people can be territorial with other rabbits. Sometimes young bucks that have not figured things out yet will be startled by the presence of another rabbit in their space. If...

Overbaked litter and a kit with a deformed ear.

I have a doe who was due on the 15th, but she didn't have her kits until this morning. She had eight kits - seven average sized kits, and one runt, and they were born with fur! One of the average sized kits has a deformed ear. One ear is small and pointy, and it looks like it won't have an...

    Aggression in young bucks?

I have seen this before in young bucks. It's a sign of immaturity. All bucks seem to mature at different rates and I have had some that do fine at 5-6 months, but most of my bucks I wait until they are 8-9 months. I also keep my young bucks in cages next to my seniors so they can have a chance...

    bunny heat exhausted

I lost three kits on Tuesday because of the same problem. Since then I have been bringing all three of my litters inside the house where it is cool between the hours of 10:30am to 6pm and just returning them to their mothers after it starts to cool off for the evening. I have not had any...
