I was wondering if nalbinding is anything like macrame? That pretty much knots things together? Maybe macrame is the crochet version of nalbinding? Kinda knitting/crochet and nalbinding/macrame?
I should look up spit splicing. Usually, I'll just overlap the ends of the yarn for a few inches...
I haven't a clue, I've only seen chinchillas in pet shops. From what I've heard they're basically nocturnal and stay busy at night and sleep all day so not sure how good of a pet they'd be. They do have an amazingly soft coat.
Bunnies are diurnal so they're busy in the mornings and evenings...
Hard to get good Texas BBQ around here, I'm jealous!
Replanted the chicken ravaged garden and it was probably a good thing that was done since I didn't find anything other than one bean seed while replanting. Now I have to order more seed since I'd planned to save seed for the next round. But...
Knotting each stitch sounds like a much slower method of construction than knitting or crochet. But once done it will stay done, that's a good thing.
I use Hula Bunny yarn for most projects since it's the yarn using the wool from our bunnies. It felts since it's an angora/Merino/silk mix and...
Bummers on the eyes! Hope she keeps at least one. Wasn't it her foot that you were worried about?
Do you think that's why they sold her, these medical issues? Or did they not know?
Hopefully she will get along with her new friends. Aren't horses happier with friends? Sheep kinda freak out...
When you spin dog hair, it's called 'chien-gora', I think? "Chien" is 'dog' in French and the 'gora' is sorta the tag end of 'angora', I'd guess? I suppose if your Great Pyrenees is female, then it would be 'chienne-gora'?
Dog hair doesn't have any sproing to it, so once it's yarn it won't be...
What an interesting method! Nalbinding doesn't look knit, crocheted or woven, yet it has an 'authenticity' to it that just screams 'hand crafted with skill'. Anyone in the Society for Creative Anachronism would drool over it since it's very well made but not machine made. Very well done for a...
Hair sheep have short rough hair and it could be spun into rug yarn, maybe. If folks can spin dog hair, then hair sheep can be spun, too. BUT, it wouldn't be anything you'd want to mix with angora. It's still gonna be scratchy yarn no matter how much bunny fluff you added to it.
For mixing...
When a doe pulls wool to build a nest, it's rather a lot of wool. At least, for angoras, maybe other rabbits don't pull as much. In a scuffle, there's just one or maybe several but just a few bits of fur/wool pulled out. When a doe is building a nest, there's a lot and she usually puts it all...
Never the ears. Usually, I'll grab the loose skin along the back shoulder area to get it to the front of the hutch. Then scoop under the hind end and tuck the head in the crook of the arm. Kinda like a football. Sometimes rolling them up in the hem of a shirt is helpful, too. You don't want...
At 4 and a half months old, she's still very young.
You and the rabbit are still learning how to interact with each other. Feeding and petting is good, although the gloves are kinda weird. She may not like the smell of them, depending on what type of gloves they are.
You won't get scratched...
Rabbits are almost the ultimate prey species, so of course they're gonna have eyes on the sides of their head to let them see things sneaking up on them. Sometimes it does seem as if they protrude, although unless there's an underlying medical condition, most of it should be normal.
Pictures? It would be interesting to see what nalbinding looks like! More like knitting or more like crochet or not like either? Although, I suppose one could google it, but that wouldn't be as interesting as seeing something by someone who's making it that you can talk to.
Chickens were in the garden after it was reseeded yesterday so I guess there's nothing left in there. ARRRGH! Wretched chooks! It's Time for chicken SOUP!
How about a fun name like Princess Priscilla? Pumpkin? Petunia? I seem to be stuck on names that start with a 'P' for some reason. Dunno why. Do horses get to know their names? Maybe "Nellie" so she has a hope of ever pronouncing her own name?
Yup, now is the time to plant the cool season crops. We have a bazillion bugs around here, mostly fruit flies that 'sting' developing fruits and things like Japanese beetles that eat leaves. We put out fruit fly traps and that keeps them down plus ring the garden with marigolds. Oh, slugs...
The only ones we have on that list around here are the neighbor's dog, rats and a small native hawk that could only carry off a chick. Mongoose aren't on the list, but they're possibly the most likely predator around here to get eggs, chicks and young chickens. Rats have gotten some newborn...
REWs are really easy. REW bred to REW = 100% REW. In order to get the albino, it requires a double recessive 'cc' and that's the most recessive of the 'C' genes. So, once you have a REW it's already got two of the most recessive C genes. I tell myself that the C gene is for Color. If...
Chinchillas (the animal, not the rabbit coat color 'chinchilla') seem to frequently show up in pet shops, much more so than specific rabbit breeds seem to show up.
Usually, which breed of rabbit you get is determined by why you want to have a rabbit. Some breeds of rabbits are for pets, some...
