I'm just surprised it progressed so fast. I did put her kids on her when I went to check her temperature.
I'm just praying she doesn't get any worse by morning because there is nothing I can do for her tonight. If I don't get a reply from the vet, I'll be heading straight to TSC to get some...
I do appreciate the advice of those who have much experience because we are very much newbies (we just finished our first year of raising these goats. We have a herd of 2 adults who both kidded two kids this year, and a 1 year old.
We use straw for bedding.
The symptoms do seem so wack. She...
I did take it after the temperature had cooled down a bit. It will probably lower a bit over night because we have been having really hot days and cool nights. But I don't think it will lower much
Yes she was and it was hot outside. Which is also why I didn't think much of her panting. Hindsight is 20/20; should have taken her temp anyway.
No banamine but going to get a prescription for it asap
Update; she's running a 106 fever (I know that is very high). My fault for not checking her temperature earlier; but aside from being a little standoffish she is acting okay (chewing cud, drink water, eating).
Going to get a vets opinion and probably a course of antibiotics.
Just one thing...
I milked her this morning and it was still pink but not as pink as yesterday night. However there are clots of milk and blood that get suck in her teat. I'm concerned that those clots could damage her teats; is that a valid concern? I'm going to be checking in her regularly to make sure the kids...
Thanks for the reassurance. The area around the tear has hardened a bit. The kiddos do keep her milked out throughout the day, but she has two boys, who are pretty aggressive in their bumping.
What would you suggest to treat her so it won't get worse?
Today on of my goat mama's tore a little bit off the back of her udder. It's probably taken one layer of skin off in a triangular shape. Hardly any bleeding. When I noticed it I sprayed it with iodine then wrapped it with some triple antibiotic. She is still nursing her kids (but separated at...
Her temperature was down to 104.6 today morning. Gave her some immune supplements and electrolytes. Her behind is not dirty anymore so it seems the diarrhea stopped too.
Going to start all the kids on a coccidiosis preventative anyway (herbal). But seems like this was not coccidiosis. Will...
Were you able to see the picture of the diarrhea?
If it weren't for the fever I would think that it could be due to the intake of fresh grass after rain. Is fever a common symptom of coccidiosis?
I'm going to get the Corid anyway, just want to make sure I'll be treating the right thing. I'll...
Is peptobismol only going to treat the diarrhea? because the diarrhea right now is a pudding consistency, so I don't want to treat just the diarrhea since it isn't too bad.
I'm mostly worried about the fever.
Coccidiosis is also what I thought might be happening. But the fact that she still...
Goat kid 1.5 month old. Still on dam. Yesterday it rained so I figured the scours (light greenish) that I saw today were due to that; gave her some probios and cleaned her up. That was in the afternoon. At 9 I checked her temperature and it was 105.6. Which I realize is really high.
She still...
So I have 4 little kiddos. The oldest one is a boy and they all get a little bit of grain every night; the oldest is the only one that really eats it and not just nibbling.
Today the whole lot of them got out and got into the duck food. When found they ran away and the oldest had a little bit...
I don't see yellow smear on anyones behinds so it's difficult to tell. Also, I think the mother has a habit of eating their poop too...
If he was in fact constipated how long would I have. They are a week old at this point and the little runt has the most energy out of them all. (He hardly...
We have a small herd of three and this was our first kidding. So we had two does kid this past week. The first one had two healthy kiddos that are jumping and being very normal goat kids I would say. Her delivery was quick and easy; she bonded well, comes running if they cry, talks to them, etc...
I managed to cut off the cotton ball without pulling it off.
Here's my issue with reburning. Considering I didn't do a very good job the first time around, I think it's safe to say I haven't burned deep enough for the pain sensation to be gone, so that area should probably be sore for a while...
We disbudded one our bucklings today. It's our first time around and we didn't burn enough it seems. We let him out and I'm not sure if it's because he knocked the scan off, but now it's bleeding.
Not too profusely but it's not stopping and it's night which means I have to put him in with his...
He's a little behind his brother as well, in terms of finding teat and nursing etc. Do you guys have any experiences with this kind of situation? I'm hoping in a few days he will be up to speed and will be keeping a special eye on him
