What age do I wean the bunnies at?

Beautiful babies btw. What breed was the sire? They look nothing like the mom.

What age do I wean the bunnies at?

Kits usually have almost weaned themselves around 4 weeks, but its best to leave them until 7-8 weeks to be safe. Remove the biggest kits first.

    Rabbit bonding

My bucks are in cages next to each other, and they get pee EVERYWHERE. Its disgusting, but I've gotten used to it. Prob wont try to bond them, though, after seeing these responses. Keeping two does together works great most of the time. It keeps them from being bored and getting extremely...

    Rabbit bonding

The two bucks i would consider bonding are from the same litter that i bred, and had to be separated at about 3 months for fighting. I didn't really try to keep them together or re-bond them, cause i planned on selling them, but that didn't happen. The 3 does i have are all related. Two are...

    Rabbit bonding

After one of my bonded pair of NZs died, I took to craigslist and found a sweet 2 year old NZ/cali mix. The bonding is going very well. That got me thinking...why not try to bond more of my bunnies? Due to hutch space (and living in the worst area ever to breed and sell bunnies) I will not be...

10 days old today - when to change environment

Keeping the kits with the dam is better, as long as you know the dam will not destroy the nest. Kits grow rapidly, especially at 10 days, so feeding 2x a day may be better. Straw or hay is just fine. Most breeders prefer that over a towel, because chewing on hay is good. Eating a towel is...

    Dead rabbit

Last November, one of my bunnies got mites. After a year of treatment, she finally died a couple days ago. I have never heard of mites holding out like that, especially without any other rabbits becoming infected. She even shared a hutch with another rabbit, who does not have a single mite on her.

    Rabbit age and sociaization

You have does, right? Does are usually less sociable than bucks. They can be extremely territorial (they bite the hand that feeds them) with people and each other. Two of my does have almost killed each other due to this. But these same rabbits can be absolute sweethearts once you interact with...

Flemish Giants and the Eglu Go hutch

If you have extra mesh, you could stagger a second layer on top of the bottom mesh layer to make the spaces smaller.

    Selling Rabbits

I would love to get back into breeding and selling rabbits, but past times when in have had kits for sale it has been extremely difficult to find good buyers. I do not want to carelessly breed rabbits and then have no one to buy them. Any suggestions/advise on advertising and finding good buyers?

Flemish Giants and the Eglu Go hutch

Does the run have an enclosed bottom/have fence extending into the ground? The rabbits could burrow down and out of the run if it just sits on the grass. But yes, that is definitely enough space for your Flemishes.

    Rabbit age and sociaization

Are you planning on keeping them in a colony/group situation? If not, and the plan is too have them in individual hutches, it doesn't matter how well they get along with each other. Or do you mean socialization with you/your family?

    Vitamins for sick Flemish

Once the rabbit is healthy again, the bacteria will repopulate the gut on their own. The challenge now is to keep the rabbit from losing so much weight that he cannot fight off harmful bacteria trying to enter the gut.

    Vitamins for sick Flemish

Weight loss may indicate disturbance in the rabbit's gut bacteria. May be a bacterial infection, something akin to food poisoning. Pellets, concentrates (oats, barley, etc), should be safe, and are great for putting weight on a skinny rabbit. Feed him as much as he'll eat. Disinfect the rabbits...

Hello from Canada, what inspired you?

Hope your new chickens work out! What do you use your birds for? I currently have 8 rabbits, 6 of which are Dutch i intended to show. That flopped, so now they are pets/manure factories. Would love to breed more litters, but the demand for rabbits in my area is, nill.

    Just thinking out loud

All of mine are pets, really. I tried to have them for show, but there are absolutely no shows where I live except for 4h showmanship contests. I sell any extras as pets or breeders. Rabbits completely have personalities. I have one buck who i swear is a dog. He loves being scratched behind the...

    Ear mites...yay

Could part of the reason be "stress"? The rabbit that has the mites is a VERY high-strung rabbit, which contributes to her weak resistance to diseases and parasites. This is not the first time she has been sick. I treated the other doe in the hutch and her with the VetRx, so hopefully that has...

    Ear mites...yay

Recently, I discovered one of my does crawling with ear mites. Her ears were infested, along with her rear end. She first contracted them last November, and I treated her until they were "gone". Well, they weren't. I've been using olive oil to smother the mites in her ears and rear, and they are...
