I have a goat in labor, her bubble has popped about 15 min ago. I saw the feet but she has sucked them back in. Not regularly actively pushing. Is she okay or should I go in??
I have frozen colostrum every year, so I have some on reserve, but regardless, I did save what I milked out last night. I'm glad I went out last night, cuz she was getting hard on one side. I don't think it is mastitis, maybe just some congestion. I had a hot rag with some peppermint oil on it...
Thanks guys. I am heading out to milk her now.
These are the boy/girl twins (guess which one is the boy) from yesterday morning, when it was 5*...
These are my twin boys from this morning. And she's the one I'm going out to milk.
She has twins, she is nursing them, we are not bottle feeding. But she is producing more than those two can eat.
She had them this morning around 5 so her 12 hrs is up. I've heard they need 3 days of colostrum? If we milk her out, will she produce more colostrum or will it turn to milk faster...
I have a momma that kidded this morning. Her bag is huge. She needs milked. I don't want her to get mastitis... How do I milk her it without "taking" all of the colostrum? Do I just milk out like a cup, or a couple squirts, or what?
Hi all, I have someone that I usually buy my alfalfa from for my goaties, but this year he had a crop of 4th cut that had blister beetles in it... I know it's like a death sentence for horses, I just didn't know if the blister beetles would affect goats at all?
I don't know what's normal, we usually pull the blood ourselves then take it to our vet to ship for us. We only pay for the label, which is $10, and they package it and ship it for us. :idunno Sorry I'm not much help... :hide
I use Ranch Mananger (http://www.lionedge.com/products/GoatSoftware.php)
It does it all, one time fee of $150 though, but in my opinion, well worth it.
Can I feed used coffee grounds to my goats? I usually compost them into my garden, but I wondered if it would be beneficial to feed them to my chickens or goats... Anyone have any idea?
I had one that was orphaned this year at 7 days old... She refused to take a bottle for 3 days. I think at that point she was hungry enough that she said FINE. But I think Babsbags is right, every time he sneaks back in with mom, is a setback. If you can definitely keep them apart, once he gets...
I have thought about putting the buck's initials, but we dont have more than one buck service our does for the year, I thought that was more to distinguish which buck (if there are multiple) serviced the doe that year?
I like Gardenia.. hmmmm :) Peaches' Blossom... that's a good idea... We...
this one has been nick named spots for the time being... creative, I know... her mom's name is Petunia, and her grandma's name was Daisy...
this one is a special one to us... we lost her mom just a week after kidding. Her mom was our favorite, and our herd queen. She was a hard one to lose...
These are all very helpful, thanks! It's good to know that their registered names can have nothing to do with their "farm" names! I will post pics soon. I have been terrible with names this year! I'm also terrible with themes... Maybe you guys can help! Pics are not on the computer, will update...
Right, I already use my farm name at the beginning, but I would like to start naming them something cool lol... I just dont know what to call them if the "cool" name doesnt have a 'real' name in the midst of it (like Joe for yours @Baymule)
How does everyone go about picking a name for registration? I have a friend that named one of her girls "Perfect Match", and I've heard of names like, "Outta Control", "Look who's talkin", etc, but what do you call them daily? That's a mouthful to say every time you talk to/about your goats...
I have no doubt that they could breed into December and probably January! :thumbsup I just prefer milking earlier and by the time their second fall comes around they are right at 18 mos old.
SE Kansas here... Our earliest breeding that took was the late August, and the latest we have bred was late October. We prefer to have late January/Early-Mid February babies, even though the weather is so hit or miss here, so we prefer breeding no later than the end of September... it could be...
