I was told my first year to watch for "weird" behavior". No one could explain what "weird' meant until I lived it. My first year I had a girl who went under the fence for 3 days straight. Never tested the fence before, and she was the only one that did it. I had to wrangle her back in for 3...
GW- Where can I get a fecal done? How expensive is it?
I've had her since she was born. Other than the buck we brought in, I don't think we have had any other outside animals brought in. She doesn't have any of the symptoms yet, but she tested positive around 8-9 mos old and the vet told me...
I have a goat that has tested positive for Johne's through blood tests, ELISA and AGID. She's the only one in the herd... I know blood tests aren't as accurate as fecal tests, but I now decided that if she tested positive (twice) that I need to get rid of her. Am I foolish for doing this? What...

Question for ya @babsbag ... You say you're only allowed to have 30 head on your property.. When it comes kidding time is there a limit to how long you can keep babies at your property before it becomes a problem having more than 30 head?
I feed it to my girls wet. I usually put it in a 5 gal bucket (about 3/4 full of dry pulp) and fill it to the brim with water, it usually fills the whole 5 gal bucket in about an hour of soaking. I've never had an issue with them choking on it.
Same with us. We have 2 daughters from last year and 1 from this year, so her genes are still with us. And I've noticed her babies have very similar personalities as she did...
As for the 2 does that might have babies today... :pop :fl I hope all goes well with them!! Remember... keep calm :)
I am SO sorry :hit We had our herd queen pass away a few weeks ago too. She was one that was going to die of old age on our farm... She had triplets this year with 2 stillborns, and one week later she went downhill, fast. Vet thought she was hemorrhaging internally from the uterus and...

Well guys, I am glad to say nothing exciting has happened in our lives in the past few days! Everyone is doing well, baby has finally latched onto the bottle and looks for it now, baby with the back leg problems is doing great, gets up and around just fine, she's just TINY!
Now.. Maybe you guys...
Update #3...
Momma didn't make it. :hit:hit
The vet called Saturday evening with the results. Fecal was good. No extreme bout of worms, but the bloodwork "surprised her". She said Cloud's red blood cell count was EXTREMELY low. Like, the low of lows for goats should be around 22%... she had...
Update #2...
Baby didn't make it. :( I was up every 2 hours from when we got her home yesterday evening till this morning at 11. She had about 10 cc's of Dextrose every 4-6 hrs through her IV cath (depending on her status), but we only got that 2cc's through the bottle right at the beginning...
Update... Baby girl is home. Still weak, but they put quite a bit of Dextrose in her. She has been on a sugar high for most of the day. Vet said she would get up, and yell for a little while, then she'd be spent and take a nap again lol. She has the IV cath still in, and the vet gave me the...
Yes! My husband has had to remind me that we can't save them all. It just hurts to lose them!
Thank you... me too. And hopefully it's just around the bend!
