Update...all the piglets are big and healthy. Two have gone to their new home, Yay!!! The small piglet never nursed but did catch up in size and is now as big as the others. Here is some updated pics of the piglets.
All kits are still alive and well and Onyx is feeding them well on her own. She continues to use the nest box as a litter box , I have to clean it every other day. I will try to get some pics up later today of them for all to see.
Thank you bunny lady. I only had to hold her to feed them all once. I have held her to feed the two very tiny kits that appear thin an extra time. My doe also goes to the bathroom in the nest box:eek:. It was so bad I had to clean it out so they do not have her fur anymore. They are kept...
Well, they are all still alive. Yay!!! We did hold my doe, Onyx, so they could get some milk last night. I do think she is trying to feed them, she just has not quite got the hang of it yet. I am hoping the force feedings do not have to last to long, but if they do, it was not to terrible...
I am unsure if she is feeding them properly. 3 look great and 3 look like they are not being fed. She is very sporadic and in and out of the box and keeps covering them up. I plan on trying to feed the 3 if they do not look fed by tonight. I am going to try to hold her and let them nurse...
My doe gave birth to 6 kits yesterday evening and now appears to be making a separate nest. I tried moving the kits to the new nest but she did not like that. I moved everything back the way she had it and she seems happy now. Is it possible she is going to have more?
She did not get a shot of iron. I read that can cause them to scour. All the piglets got a drop of poly-vi-sol with iron and their cords cleaned and sniped after birth. I also keep a flat pan of dirt in their enclosure for them to root around in. If this is not sufficient for the iron I have...
Does the humidity mess the minerals up? Or is that not a problem where you live? My goats have plastic mineral feeders attached to their fence in their barn. I fill as needed but usually have to switch out frequently due to the humidity, so I put small amounts out at a time. I purchased my...
We have decided to change her feeding schedule to see if it helps. Now she gets 10ml every 2 hours. We started this last night and this morning she looks like she has a full belly like the other piglets. Hopefully this will help.
My mini potbelly pig, Sadie, had 8 piglets on the 15th. It was a horrible labor for Sadie, as it lasted 36 hours and we had to assist in two of the piglets births. The last piglet was a still born. We will not breed Sadie again. We noticed several hours after this little girl was born she...
