My BIL bought a 3yo Jersey cow today. She's 4 weeks fresh and off an organic Amish farm. She’s skinny and a little timid, but she stood quietly without restraint or snacks for milking tonight.
Her name is Annie and she’s only got 3 quarters. I’m not sure if she lost a quarter due to...
The new boys from this morning
They are both gray under their dark tips. Their combined weight is only 3lbs less than the twin Border Leicesters from Tuesday. Pretty impressive considering the size difference in their moms. Linga is around 80lb, Hirta is around 120.
Cyril the ham
Fred...
It was gloriously warm yesterday and I had the day off so I spent a lot of time just sitting in the barn. It was good for my mental health.
I ended up with a lap full of Shetlands, as usual.
Sleepy cat toes on the bridge
Twig is so freaking cute. She’s constantly running up to me and pestering for attention.
Hirta’s Tuesday babies
I love Cyril. He’s the opposite of his full sister, Pamina, from last year. She’s was super spooky from day one. He’s a little stalker.
Everyone loves Grandma Valerie...
Linga’s twin sister, Fyne, is over being pregnant. She’s due on Saturday, but I wouldn’t be surprised if she goes today or tomorrow.
Jemima is due today, but she’s not up to much at the moment. Her butt is puffier and her udder is bigger than yesterday. I’m only expecting 1 from her. She...
Yesterday
Today
Twin boys, of course, but they have spots! The first one is all black with only some head and face spots. He will turn gray.
I wish #2 was a girl. He’s spotty all over. Not sure yet if he’ll turn gray.
Linga is a first-time mom. I was not expecting twins so that was a...
Right on schedule, Hirta popped out twins this morning. Found them on the camera when I woke up. White girl, black boy.
I’ve broken my little Shetland baby, Twig. She runs right up to me during chores almost every morning and demands pets and snuggles. She takes after her mom, grandma...
Better pictures of Thursday morning’s boys.
The twins, Fred and George
Finna’s boy, Cyril
I have to go over pedigrees to make sure he’s not too related, but I may grow Cyril out as a potential breeding ram.
I let all the new lambs out of their pens. P-Ewe’s girl, Eugenie’s, legs are...
P-Ewe’s chunky monkey
Her legs are slightly bowed right now, but they should straighten out. The funny part is that she came out backwards and her legs are all bowing the same direction which is the way they’d be if she was wrapped around a very full rumen. Obviously there wasn’t enough room...
Her name is technically Plutonium. The symbol is PU. “Plutonium” didn’t fit on the tag so we started calling her PU and that morphed into P-Ewe. She’s actually registered as “P-Ewe”.
Twin boys from Kindie just now. Nice big boys.
Pretty sure Finna is working on having hers as well. She’s been restless and pawing for a few hours now.
Baby Binti is doing really well and is going to end up extremely spoiled.
Remember P-Ewe? My extra wide ewe that had triplets last year and was as big or bigger this year? She lambed tonight. ONE lamb! Just one. At least it’s a girl. 🤦🏼♀️ She weighs 12lb.
My sister reported that she’s doing ok this morning. Talkative and eating well. Her breathing got pretty crappy at one point so she got an albuterol breathing treatment. She’s going to be on dexamethazone for a while to help her lungs. Definitely not out of the woods.
My ewes are still holding...
I put my 3 ewes due this week in big jugs this afternoon. I wouldn’t be surprised at triplets from 2 of them and I don’t want to deal with mixed up lambs and confused ewes if they all decide to lamb at the same time while I’m working. Their pens are all in clear view of the cameras so I’ll be...
My day off today did not go to plan. I managed to drag myself to town to get my allergy shots, buy Oskar Biteyface food and human food and was back by 1330.
My next-door sister worked today and my BIL called me shortly after I got home to ask for help with a sick ewe. She appeared to have...
