Today is day 145 for Boots!
I didn’t put her up last night, but checked her early this AM and her ligs were gone.
She just had twin does about 30 minutes ago, I was worried about her after last year. Two really robust kids and no complications!
Honestly, this year has been so horrible for so many that I know. I’d rather be safe than sorry. I’m not one to just start throwing meds out at an animal but this year has me on edge.
I don’t think they are more prone to it, per say. Around here meat goat folks either don’t care, don’t know what it is, or don’t know they have it in their herd. Meat goats are not near as intensively managed as dairy goat herds. Also, around here, very few test for CL as it is, much less meat...
Hope the kid pulls through.
Are you giving Zenith anything? Uterine flush or antibiotics? I know they "clean out" after kidding, but I'd be temped to put her on something also.
That's how our state fair is. They don't want the family memberships, but individual memberships.
ADGA is funny, sometimes they want the service memo other times not. If you need the papers back within a certain time just send the memo.
Those clippers look good :thumbsup
What?!? :ep:th
That is terrible! I’m so thankful our NC dairy goat breeders aren’t like that!
I’m also thankful our State fair doesn’t let the public near the animals. It’s pretty safe.
So far, even at the fairs that do allow the public, everyone is pretty good. But I always have...
I personally like staying near my goats. I don't leave them.
Though over the last year it seems I've become the designated watcher for some other herds
The way our state fair is, if a youth wants to show one of his goats in the youth show, the goat has to be in his name.
You can enter 2 goats per class and have another youth show the other goat as long as the youth is still showing one of the goats. Other shows could care less.
You can call...
I don't know anything about 4-H so no help there.
Do you have any ADGA shows coming up? He could show at those shows. Some ADGA shows will actually have an ADGA sanctioned youth show too.
As far as show supplies, pack everything! LOL
I always tarp all the outer fence to keep my goats from...
7-8 weeks is far to young to wean a Nubian IMO.
We keep ours on milk for at least 16 weeks. 12 weeks is the absolute earliest I'd wean a large breed goat- and even then it's a bit early.
What’s his temp?
Penicillin G procaine is something we always keep on hand along with oxytetracycline.
B complex and probiotics is something you should have on hand also. I’m not saying you should GIVE these things, but keep them on your shelf.
That is true! I regret not seeing BW in person, he is my all time favorite. I so wanted to see him before they retired him.
LYJ's breeder is not far from us, they shop at the same feed stores we do LOL
He was amazing.
