@frustratedearthmother I love that pic! She is so darn adorable! Those little cannon bones just kill me, so cute and tiny! How big are the pygmies? When not pregnant. Height/weight? How do their personalities compare to the ND’s?
@B&B Happy goats this will be Ruth’s 5th kidding. She’s had...
I don't have cattle, but I do own goats and test for Johnes.
I personally WOULD test before bring an animal onto the farm. I know here in NC the test is cheap. I think it would be worth it to test anyway.
Yes, you could purchase the animal and then test BUT if the cow is a strong + you are out...
Lucy doe is due Friday (day 145), Lemon Chiffon is due Sunday!
I didn't get any pics of Lemon, but here is Lucy. I'm thinking triplets.
He udder is just starting to fill.
And just because........
My poor Ruth. She is huge! She's due April 8th.
Y'all think she settled? LOL
I would get two bucklings and raise them up together. Right now we only have 4 mature bucks, but we used to have a “buck herd” with 15+ bucks. They got along great, but we always brought in kids to raise up with the other bucks. We found the mature bucks were always more accepting of younger...
Rather than keeping a buck and wether, consider keeping two bucks.
I don't like keeping bucks alone, they do better with a companion. When they are not rutting, our bucks LOVE each other and really enjoy the companionship of another buck.
Some bucks can be pretty terrible to wethers...
Yep, it'll shed out. All your fences will be covered with it LOL
We have some goats that get a thick cashmere like coat- they look like hair sheep shedding off in the spring!
We clip a lot of our dairy goats, so sometimes we brush them out to make it easier on the clippers, but you don't...
Call your vet ASAP.
Offer him some warm molasses water.
I would also give Nutri-Drench
Can you hear if his rumen is working? I'd start dosing with probios (oral) and B-complex injection.
Do you know how long he has been down? How do his legs feel?
Can you massage his legs and gently stretch...
I just saw your pics of the lamb, check his mouth. It looks like he has an under bite. That could be why he is having a problem suckling off his momma. Check for a cleft palate too.
Do you have some nutri-drench? If you do, rub some on him gums. It'll give him a boost and may help the temp...
Thanks @frustratedearthmother!
She looks pretty good for everything she has been through. She gave me a scare a few weeks back during the cold spell. She dropped weight and was acting really slow, the other does started picking on her. I was really worried about Ruby.
I moved her back with some...
Any feed changes should be gradual. You can give probiotics if you are worried, I'll do this when changing feed.
You could try soaked beet pulp shreds. It seems to be pretty easy on the stomach and our goats love it.
Hay pellets are good too, they can be soaked to help soften it.
I feed...
Congrats! :weee
That is an interesting color, I don't think we've had any like that.
What are your plans for these kids? The ND's?
Kiko/Nubian crosses are so cool. I really want to use our Nubian buck over our PB kiko doe. I think it would be a good cross.
I would keep an eye on them. If they look chilled put a lamp out for them. You may want to set your alarm and check a few times trough the night. Generally the dam would cuddle against the kids and keep them warm.
I will say, our nubians are complete WIMPS! They have 0 cold tolerance.
I bottle...
