The 2 paints and nearly all the black TWHs at the barn I board at are in during the day and out at night in the summer to save color for showing. However, these horses are worked regularly to break up the monotony of the day.
Coming in the in the late morning, most of the horses are sacked out...
DOn't be afraid to go for an older horse (teens) for your husband. An 18 yr old horse will still have 5+ years of good riding left in them.
Heck, mine's 18 and still goes like bat out of h---. Then again, she's an Arab Saddlebred, something that people are telling you to avoid!
In addition to...
They wouldn't do as well in Michigan-comp. ;)
Most out of state competitive trail riders dread UMECRA competitive rides because we are so fast-paced and we don't have those half hour windows.
I do like to see other breeds compete though.
There's a woman who rides the competitive trail and endurance rides who has a half-Arab, half-Appy that is a solid dark bay. The coloring doesn't always come through.
He looks a little more quarter horse-like in the newest picture. So I'd say half-Arab, half QH, although he could be 3/4 Arab...
At least half-Arab, maybe 3/4 or purebred. If he is mixed, probably with a Quarter Horse.
Head is a little on the coarse side for Arabs but some purebreds do have heads like that.
Most Europeans (Brits especially) regularly trot on pavement
Relics, I nearly always wear a helmet. As an endurance rider, there have been a number of times trotting fast through the woods that my head has thunked on branches and I was always grateful I had one on.
Occasionally in competition...
Have you seen him urinate?
For DH's old appy, we used to rub his "thigh" to get him to let down.
Make sure you use slightly warm water and that you reach up in there to get out the beans. Also, pull the foreskin back gently to get anything that has built up in there.
Just go about it slowly...
he new frog will grow in and replace the old part. When the farrier comes, he may be able to pare some of it away.
Distilled Vinegar OR diluted bleach are home remedies that will work too
All of you are forgetting the point that goats have NEVER been as popular here as in southern Europe or the Middle East or Africa. It has nothing to do with self-sufficiency or factory farming.
As Americans we have always been cow obsessed, the exception being in the southwest where due to lack...
Izzie and I took first at the Tin Cup Springs 25. We still have one more ride to go!
She's still going like a bat out of h--l and even at the end I was holding her back so she could slow down and get her heart rate down.
Saw lots of small game hunters
Horsiezz, LOTS of hunters don't know the...
They're going out, they just like to come up north where they can use rifles. All the hunting magazines are now saying southern Mich has all the big bucks since everyone goes up north and ignores the bucks in their own backyards.
They need to have a bow incentive for the southern, more...
Three horses in our area have been diagnosed with Potomac Horse Fever. All have recovered (one even went on to win a state championship!)
Some years back when I was working at a small ranch in SE Gladwin county, 12 horses within a 10 mile radius came down with Potomac and 3 died. The vet said...
It's not just our current ag practices. While there have been goats in the US, by and large we have always been a cattle breeding nation.
The largest ethnic groups in the US are British Isles descent and Germans, both groups of people who are descended from cattle-herding Indo-Europeans who...
