When it gets close to !00(had to go there, Haha) or heat index up in that range, I also use 12"×12" ceramic or clay floor tiles. I just keep half in the same freezer I use for their ice bottles. I rotate them out abt every two hours if I can.
I like the big 3Liter pop bottles. They stay frizen...
I was gonna say, those last two are definitely Not rabbits! Haha.
I believe rabbits are abt the best way to achieve a small, backyard herd. And in the end, isn't that why we're all here?
Not much space, just need a garden or compost pile to get rid of waste, and the quickest way to grow own...
Our small town grocer has a real butcher that cuts their own meats. I get my kidney fat from them for my own grinding, but I have to wait til they've already ground their own sausage.
It's just like texting, tweeting, or posting things on FB. You can't always get the right message across or read the intended tone in the desired message like a verbal conversation. And even then with me based on my sense of humor, sometimes folks get offended.
We only do it every once in a while. I appreciate being able to still do some things that they did before having electricity. I forgot how salty it was. The pork jowl wasn't cured or smoked, so I could control the saltiness with that. I add liquid smoke for taste. I still enjoy mush and grits...
I guess it's best to have pelts from a mature species, be it beaver, fox, deer, mink, etc. A good rabbit hide probably comes from a year old or older. Mine are between 10 and 12 weeks when prime for meat, so the hides just get thrown away.
Jill has been back to 100% since coming home. Just some changes on not using Nsaids and less coffee. She's on an acid pump blocker type med for a couple months.
My boys asked me today, How's come we don't have normal flat bacon like everyone else? I said, because I listened up once when my...
Unfortunately, no one here appreciates the coats. They're too big for pets, and the coat comes off for meat. They are cute for a while. It is why I prefer to raise the standard NZW. Not as much character to get attached to. :)
Welcome from the Hoosier State! :frow
Right now I just do the meat rabbits. Might do laying chickens in near future. I would eventually like to have dairy goats with the above mentioned others. My family of 4 do all like eating rabbit, or it would be pointless as you expressed.
Well, if you've...
Here are approx week olds that my White and red broken pattern mutt kindled with a little help of my rookie NZW Intermediate buck. He's proven now, I guess. The dam to the doe was a red mutt that had black, brown, brokens. Just never knew what she would end up with.
Been a busy week since getting back with Jill Sunday afternoon. After some visitation Monday, got some mowing done. Attended a surgery Tuesday and Wednesday. Cleaned out rabbit trays Thursday. Have clerical work today and Saturday mixed in with some butchering. We've been trying to do something...
Today Jill had an endo scope that showed stomach lining abrasions but no ulcers. The meds from the dentist helped set everything off. She uses a lot of Ibuprofen and has to get away from Nsaids and use Tylenol and an acid blocker. We got to come home abt 4pm today. Thanks for the kind words and...
I haven't been on much in last week due to some various dental and then mecical issues my wife is having. When the doe mounts the buck, she's generally ready to accept him next. Always take her to him never the other way around. Or use a neutral space. Hope it went well for them.
I use the backstraps for breaded nuggets. Cut into chunks, hammer tender, and bread & fry. Also other portions deboned and hammered work good for breaded cutlets.
I have a good chicken casserole that is easy, can use cooked rabbit, and kids love it. It is good in noodles, and on the grill.
Jill and I are having a "second honeymoon". She awoke Saturday morning at 2am with severe central abdominal pain just under the ribs that radiates thru to the back. We went to the local ER which is controlled by St Francis hospital. They did CT scan with contrast and gave her some meds. Then...
Today was rough. Jill had a filling come out and take some tooth with it down to the root. Dentist couldn't get her in til Tuesday, so found an emergency 24 hour dental and they extracted it. $289 or $2000 for a root canal. Too expensive to save the tooth. Couldn't secure a sitter, so spent 3...
Yes and no. I try to breed in Spring and breed again in early Fall. If it's too hot or too cold I avoid breeding. So, they do kindle sometimes in summer or winter.
Well, abt the time I was giving up on the 2 does kindling their litters, I went out to feed this am and the red and white broken pattern had a box full of pulled hair. She had half the litter on the cage floor and the other half in the box. I placed the 3 on tbe cage floor with the 4 in the box...
