just a picture of sheep. they love to run to the gate and meet me for dinner. side view of the sheep shed. The large door area is open all year except this winter we located a semi trailer tarp for free and hung it up to block snow and wind. Worked out well since it has been very snowy and...
This thread may already have been created but after looking at recent posts I would love to see pictures of everyones lambing jugs. This is our second year. The first year was a giant flop for us because we only had our two older girls(who were 2.5 years old) and lost a set of stillborn twins...
Good luck luvmypets. I do not interfere with the process unless it gets prolonged. Animals just know when the process is going right or wrong in my opinion.
Also thanks for the info on letting the lambs out. lol, I have a jug set up that is larger than recommended but only because I am using...
Quick question. My newest lambs(triplets) are 3 days old today and the mom loves them but she wants out of the lambing jug. Do you think it would be safe to let them out? Maybe let them out during the day then put them in the jug at night? I am worried because of the littlest girl. The...
Brownsheep, didnt you have a small lamb born? In my set of triplets, one is quite smaller than the other two but I have seen her nurse once just after she was born last evening, this morning and just now. I am worried about her being so small but she seems to know when to sneak in a quick meal...
Yes he has lowered his head at my husband several times and my oldest son a couple times. Its time. Also yes she is a hampshire/suffolk cross and might be one of the most loving curious animals I have ever owned. She and her sister were 4h sheep that I bought off craigslist for 150 for the...
Thank you! Can you upload a pic of her parts? udder? Everyone on here seems to REALLY know what they are talking about. I NEVER EVER would have thought Cagney would have had 4 lambs. We have officially went from 5 ewes 2 rams to 7 lambs, 5 ewes and 2 rams although tomorrow is the end of the...
I worked at this hospital for my 3rd 12hr shift and came home to find my wool ewe has had 4 babies!! although the last one was only the size of my hand, not fully developed and still in the sac. SO she has one VERY small living ewe, and one larger ewe and one ram lamb!! I have seen everyone...
How exciting!! We have light in our jug as well(its a heat lamp when needed) but my wonderful husband got me a headlight that I throw on if I go back at night. I'm a big baby at night. Good luck!
New picture of milk bag/udders on wool sheep. I really do not think it will be much longer. Its pink and warm to the touch. I think she is getting tired of me looking and feeling her.
I have a wool ram who was 1 year old in December 2013. He is intact but our hair ram seems to have been "getting it done" this year judging by our lambs being born. SO, we are thinking about having him butchered. Do you think it will taste bad? The butcher is concerned that he will have a...
Thank you! It has been VERY cold here all winter so I have been putting my lambs in them for a couple weeks until I turn them out. I plan on letting them out for a while tomorrow
As for my wool ewe, her milk bag is HUGE and starting to get really pink. It also lost all of its wool on it. I took a picture last week of it but it is quite larger now. I am still waiting anxiously on her!
Thank you all for the responses! One other question, has anyone ever used ralgro on their ram lambs. We use it on our slaughter steers but NEVER on our heifers because it can mess with breeding later in life.
We had twin ram lambs born this morning and I wanted to know everyone's thoughts on castration or leaving them intact. Normally I castrate our bull calves the day they are born with a knife unless they are registered. I know the lambs would grow better left alone but I don't need several rams...
