Poor mama! I think that delivery must have been so stressful, painful, and even injurious for the doe.
I would try breeding her again, but I have a different mindset than many other breeders as to when. She will be the most fertile right now, but I personally would not breed her right away and...
@Hopalong Causually I would just keep introducing the does to the buck. If they have had a break from breeding, it may take a few days to get more hormonally compliant. And as @secuono stated, does do have cycles. I never had a problem with any of mine, except that one and it really had nothing...
I am sure we have all been there...not quite where we wanting to be with our rabbitry in one way or another. This has been my challenge this breeding season.
Problem: Did not breed much last year because of family issues (mother-in-law in another state fell twice in 6 months time then became...
But did you say the words? They like listening to encouraging words...hence the very big ears. ;)
It may just have been too cold. I have not had bucks go sterile during the winter, even this winter which was definitely colder for longer periods than most, but it may be yours have not had enough...
I agree with @promiseacres! That sounds like too much. I started mine with 1/2 teaspoon and build them up to about 2 teaspoons, but I probably could do a tablespoon with my senior rabbits as they are over 10 pounds, but I am cautious when I add new things to my rabbits' diets.
Have you tried adding black oil sunflower seeds? I have read that it helps with keeping winter coats in good condition. I have been using it this winter and it seems to work for my rabbits. I do not have angoras though.
:(
Did I forget to add that I look her straight in the eyes and tell her this is going to happen so she be a mother to more sweet, beautiful babies? :love
@promiseacres Lower than zero? :hu
Seriously, though. That doe is a Silver Fox with records of 5 to 9 kits, typically 6 to 7. She is also four years old and had 5 kits last time which is under her average, but considering her age, I think assisting has not lowered the number of kits she...
Regardless of the sound the doe makes, I have one doe that has just always been difficult about accepting a buck. In her case, she takes a dominate role and just wears a buck completely out so he gives up. I have taken to pulling her forward and holding her head down gently but firmly for a...
@promiseacres Your logo is nice. Maybe a different font.... You have clean lines with the rabbit outlines and that is what grabs my attention first. You can be fanciful on the name but the capitals popping up close to the horizontal line seems to lose the balance. You can try it without the...
When my does were younger they seemed to live by never put off to tomorrow what you can do today. Now it seems like they have adopted the work smarter, not harder philosophy and wait to nest when they are just beginning labor...or they have come to realize they are being watched and just like to...
My husband and I approached one escapee with a large quilt to a corner of the fencing but he then just hopped over to me and I picked him up. Of course, after his paws were off the ground as I picked him up, he was not as happy.
Once I just sat for awhile and they curiously come right up to me...
I was not seeing a recent thread that had this info so I thought I would start one!
I currently have Silver Foxes, New Zealand Whites, and SF/NZW crosses, but by the end of spring I hope to have Silver Foxes only. (Although I am seriously considering making an exception for a chinchilla cross.)...
When my husband started talking about keeping rabbits, I thought colony style would be the kinder, more natural way to do things until I began to read about real experiences from people who tried it and were honest with the downside. All I can say is that most of the people I have read about...
@Jesusfreak101 I am sorry, but when domestic rabbits are on the ground, they are susceptible to all the diseases to which wild rabbits have a higher immunity because they have had exposure for the hundred years that many domestic rabbits have not had. There is more moisture on the ground, so...
I am assuming you are referring to nest box eye...? I have not ever had a kit with it in the seven years I have had rabbits. I have used homemade nesting boxes that can be removed but now I use them for two week old and over kits or a rabbit that needs one for other reasons. I particularly like...
