I’d say as many predators will go under as will go over. I’d go with 4 foot woven wire with barbed wire on top then your electric if you want it. Then I’d get 1-2 good LGDs to guard against predators. A big bark deters a lot, but they have to back it up if needed.
1 day and no escape. I’m going to run an electric about 1-2 feet inside it anyway. Just to be sure. While I’m gone I don’t want my wife to have to mess with it. I work away from home a month at a time, I’m glad he decided to do this while I was home.
He’s got great grass, but they have cherry picked off the red clover. There’s. Plenty out in the neighbors field. He was literally walking around just grazing it out. Luckily he was full and I was able to call him back in. He is trained to call very well. That’s a good thing at least.
Well knowing cattle they will point out any weak link in the fence. My bull has decided he wants to eat in the neighbors field. Luckily I was home when he has done it 2x. Thought I fixed the fence well enough yesterday. Guess not. Luckily he hasn’t gone anywhere, he just wants to eat over...
Feeder pigs require a high protein diet, especially high in lysine. I don’t see a great protein source in there. 100 pigs in an indoor facility will require a GOOD ventilation system to control both odor and ammonia. 100 40 lb pigs doesn’t seem like much. When they are 200+ it’s a lot of...
If the fence is fully on your property, it is yours. Beyond that it gets muddy. That fully on your property can be 1/2 inch inside the line. Fences on property lines are typically co-owned, unless there is an agreement between the neighbors. As with all real estate agreements, it needs to be...
Sounds like you’re off to a good start. In alfalfa blends are $40 a square bale you may want to expand your search. In southwest Mo, just 1 state away, my provider charges $6.50\bale for alfalfa/orchardgrass blends which makes great cow/goat feed. It might be worth the drive since a pickup...
Think you meant that for @georgiagirl. I understand the thoughts. I love my animals, but I understand why I have them also. To me, my dogs are pets, my cows are livestock. Making that differentiation mentally is HUGE. I grew up on an 1100 acre farm. 300 sows, 100+ cows + males, babies...we...
Welcome. I can’t help much with the rabbits, but I do have the Highlands. Mine are crosses with mini Hereford then a mini cross bull. I’m raising for my consumption, not selling purebreds. The quality vs quantity thing. Enjoy the journey.
With all of the craziness I’m working from home. 10 hr days on a computer. Booooo.
Cuts into my outdoor time. I did get out with the herd, put out some hay and scratches. Everyone is doing well. Both of my heifers are coming in heat regularly and Olaf is showing interest. Thank goodness the...
My bull had to have a little reminder tonight. I was out feeding. He didn’t hit me, but bumped the bucket I was carrying pretty good. I gave him a whack with the stick I always carry. He backed up 2 steps and followed me to the feed pans. Later he walked up to the fence and wanted a scratch...
My bull did that recently. I walked him across the bridge of the nose when he swung the head. Not hard, but enough to let him know that was not acceptable. A couple times, then all I had to do was lift a hand and he would stop. Now he’s a big fan of scratching.
