Unexplained intestinal cysts - Have you ever seen this before? (graphic picture)

Thank you, @Beekissed ! I think I have a (laywoman’s) diagnosis! The article you posted lists “pimply gut:” Pimply gut is a condition where there are lumps in the gut that range from pinpoint to pea size. It occurs in cattle and sheep intestines as a result of the nodular intestinal worm This...

Unexplained intestinal cysts - Have you ever seen this before? (graphic picture)

I think I need to order fecal tests on my flock. I recently noticed some diarrhea, and I know the sheep drink from the ponds as well as from their trough.:he Giardia is starting to make sense...

Unexplained intestinal cysts - Have you ever seen this before? (graphic picture)

That is my thought, but it looked so far outside my own experience I wanted to see if anyone could second me. Thank you!

She was neither exceptionally fat nor underweight, and she was not anemic. Her behavior was normal except that I caught her licking the dirt around a rusty fence-post once, which may account for a rusty brown tinge to the cud stain on her jaw.

Unexplained intestinal cysts - Have you ever seen this before? (graphic picture)

My yearling ewe had been spilling cud/leaving puddles of green drool, and had a sore on the corner of her mouth where the cud was leaking out. The shearers said it was most likely caused by an abscessed tooth. I took her to the vet, who looked at her and said that while she was missing a tooth...

    Getting goats from Rescue

I don’t have much goat experience, but I think you might get more replies to this post if you changed the title. “Rehoming Goats” sounds like you are looking for someone to take your goats of your hands rather than give advice for adjusting them to their nice new home!

    New sheep not eating much

Oof, that's rough. How are they doing now? Have you gotten them to eat more or be less fearful?

    Emergency Fire IDs

I was nervous about tagging my own critters at first, but it was surprisingly easy on both human and sheep, less distressing than a hoof-trimming session

    Emergency Fire IDs

Would ear tags work for you? My sheep have names, farm, and ID numbers on their ear tags, and you can buy customized tags from Premier 1, so I imagine you could add your contact info as well.

    Any tips to convince parents?

Maybe you could ease them into goats by starting with raising a kid for show or market. I don’t know anything about those livestock niches, but the built-in end date might overcome some of your parents’ hesitation while giving you another chance to demonstrate a positive experience with goat(s).

Butchered my first wether; time to tan!

To avoid the difficulty of disposing of a large volume of acid solution, I used the brush-on method described in the article I posted instead of the soaking method. I got my acid and washing soda from Van Dykes. All the solution needed, a half batch of the given recipe, fit in this manageable...

Butchered my first wether; time to tan!

He was a fairly small sheep, but the hide is smaller than it would be if I hadn’t damaged/wasted so much by inexperience.

Butchered my first wether; time to tan!

By the end, I had to trim off some damaged hide from the edges, had two holes, a tear at the edge, and some lost wool, but I’d still consider this a success for a beginner.
