When we brought in our nubian wethers, they were more aggressive around the feed bowls than we were used to. We also feed them all together, so it was making it so we weren't sure the does were getting enough.
For us, it worked after a while, but if it didn't, I would have had to face the tough...
I have two young doelings (4 and 5 months) and 2 wethers (4 months.) We bought a big southern state mineral block for ruminants. Is it ok to just let them have at it, or do you have to wait until they reach a certain age before you would put that out for them?
Our goats LOVE animal crackers, but I don't want to give them animal cracker if they're bad for them.
Can you let me know what you give as treats, and if you give different treats for males vs female goats?
My kids love to go out and give them treats and sometimes their friends will be over...
I noticed that flies get into the straw that is on the ground. And while we replace it pretty often since it's hot, just fluffing it up usually stirs up a bunch of flies living in the straw. Do you ever sprinkle anything on the straw itself to discourage flies? or is it just replace all the...
The biting flies are in the goat house, and although the fly strips catch some of them, it's hot and they seem to be particularly bitey.
I am sure the goats are suffering with them. What do you use to control flies in the goat living area that won't hurt the goats?
We have two nubian wethers that are 16 weeks and two gurnsey does that are about 15 and 18 weeks.
Here is what we feed them:
1) 2 cups of grain to the does each morning/late afternoon(the nubians LOVE grain, so we give 1/2 cup because we read grain was bad for them)
2) We just started giving...
It is nice to know that someone cares about your coming and goings so much.
I am being careful not to give treats after screams. I am trying to just check on a scream, and treats when it's quiet. Will that pavlovian method work as well? Or is screaming too much fun. We will see.
We have nubian wether goat kids that just scream - a lot. Once we found a goat got stuck in a small tree, so the scream was distress, and often it's because they hear us coming and going. But it's also randomly all other times too. Does screaming usually mean hunger? sickness?
We are concerned...
The gurnsey's are so dog-like to me. I love the nubians but so far they've shown us more that they are screaming, eating machines. I still give them the same amount of love and care for them, but they are all about food. The gurnsey personality is really different.
We buy raw honey from a...
We did have cocci with the first two goats a week after we brought them home, which was a real learning experience for us (a fecal by the vet confirmed it) and he had us use the Corid. We are now using Corid as preventative. Is that a good idea? The vet recommended a 21 day cycle of watered...
The previous owner said she experienced something similar at 2 months. Sudden high fever and spacey behavior. They said a vet gave her anti-biotics and she recovered. The 2 nubian wethers have had 1 round of Cd&T and the previous owner said we need to get them a second round . The guernsey...
Thank you for the replies. We are waiting to get the confirmation about the rabies, but when we brought her in, the vet gave her three shots of thiamine and a shot of antibiotic, but he did say the fever was really high and that 2 more degrees would be brain damage. He said if it wasn't rabies...
So, we are new goat owners. Our goats are pets and we have two guernsey goat does (17 wks and 14wks.) 10 days ago, we decided to add two nubian wethers to our herd (15wks) and while we were picking them up, another nubian doe kid that was at the farm screamed after them, so we took her too...
