Question re: dealing with separated pastures?

That makes sense. Lanes would be useful.

How different really are rabbits (leporidae/lepus, lagomorpha) from rodents?

I'd heard for awhile people say that rabbits aren't really in the same grouping as rodents. I very much hope that is true. But how much different really? And I hoped to get more details on this with the rest of you, and see what you thought? For humans farming or eating rodents is disgusting...

Question re: dealing with separated pastures?

So I wanted to ask how you guys deal with separated pastures when you can't always get them cheap next door. Like an example, most of your pastures are next to each other, except you have a couple that aren't right next to your others. Maybe its a few hundred yards away or a mile away with...

How young can they be outside in the cold?

So I wanted to check on this. Have a couple kits. Wanted to double check how young they can be outside in the cold? (And its winter here.) These are about 8 weeks old. I don't want to take any chances and so I thought I'd double check. This isn't my first time with rabbits, but it somehow...

    Buckets freezing issue?

So I forgot who said it, it was on this thread or the other one about 5 gallon buckets and someone said to look for .09 mil buckets instead of 0.07 mil. And it didn't dawn on me until this morning to ask...does that mean there's a thicker sturdier plastic for 5 gallon buckets after .09? (Just...

    Buckets freezing issue?

    Observed rabbit behavior

So.... a new rabbit behavior was observed yesterday and the day before. I was curious to compare notes with you all to see what you thought. Yesterday and today I tried to mate the buck with a doe. And after doing so he starts licking her ears. He was doing it quite a while. And he did it with...

Question re: pasture management versus rain slow downs

So I was listening to a video on Youtube entitled; 'Raising Hens with No grain. Some thoughts by Richard Perkins. It was quite interesting. At any rate, when I'm listening to this there's this spot where he says that his pasture was like shoulder high and still green while the other people in...

What are pasture leasing rates for your state?

Very nice. Thanks for your comment. How do you find opportunities like this?

What are pasture leasing rates for your state?

I wanted to ask pasture leasing rates for your states? My state is somewhat overprice in a lot of things. And I stumbled upon the idea that you don't need to own the land to start up, and in fact could even avoid it entirely, and avoid a lot of the high priced items if you are serious about...

Can you still make money w sheep if you have to buy feed beyond pasture limits?

I agree that it takes awhile to get used to some ideas. Here solar and lots of things are seen as a joke. But I do like letting people try to work it out and see what they can come up with.

    Sprouts & Temperature?

So to follow up, because of help on the forum I did work out the sprouts. Its working! And its exciting to see the savings in food and money. But a new question popped up... Right now I'm in the family basement with my sprouts growing, but how do people do it with sprouts when they have to do...

Can you still make money w sheep if you have to buy feed beyond pasture limits?

I wouldn't have thought of goats being able to be rented to clear vacant lots. LOL. It makes sense. Goats would be way cheaper than a backhoe or digging machines to rent. I like it.

Can you still make money w sheep if you have to buy feed beyond pasture limits?

Thanks for the great comments. I can't reply to everyone... Sounds fun what you are doing. I like it. In the grand scheme of things, it seems like having true freedom to choose your daily schedule etc to be very exciting. (Not choosing to do less I mean, but the idea that you are your own...

Can you still make money w sheep if you have to buy feed beyond pasture limits?

Yeah, I hear ya. But its just so fascinating to try and make it work right? :) Who doesn't want their job to be doing things that are fun, and working for yourself. :p Its just fun to figure this out even if it seems hard. Your dairy goats idea is fun I think. Although I'm not really into...

Can you still make money w sheep if you have to buy feed beyond pasture limits?

Question is as above, and what it seems. Interested in what you all might have to say about this. Obviously having pasture would be the best thing. But anything affordable is sort of semi-arid hot AZ stuff. That means it will probably not entirely support all the pasturage needed for a small...

Pasture management in AZ... for sheep? & Grazing recovery?

So I haven't done sheep yet. But I'd like to someday. But I wanted to check how well your pastures can recover and grow for places like Arizona? Normally places that are wet can stack the sheep up pretty well for pastures in areas of the US with lots of water. And it seems like a lot of figures...
