DH got home at 7 this morning from unloading 22 pallets of drinking water donated to our town by Wal Mart. I think it really dawns on you that you have a true emergency when Wal Mart's donating water... Anyway, the greenhouse has the only forklift around here so he was delegated as forklift...

Oh, the irony. We've had the worst flooding here that anyone can remember in years (of course, along with the hottest, driest summer and the coldest snowiest winter and the stormiest spring since we moved here)... And now, amidst all this flooding, we have NO CITY WATER. Yep. The water main...

Poop. Scarlett got a NASTY uterine infection this year after her first ever triplet litter which required me going in up to my shoulder to pull them. NASTY one... Hopefully she'll be ok...I think I'd choose a stronger antibiotic though. :fl

Yep, no milk, meat OR egg withdrawl on Eprinex. It's what I use on my chickens =)

Too bad it's not a 2 day show - she'd be a junior doe the first day and a senior doe in milk the second! LOL

Dulce is NEVER gonna kid :P She's been building her udder forever, and it's getting some SIZE to it. We're taking her to a show this weekend, hopefully she doesn't decide Mother's Day is THE day. (shouldn't have said that, huh?) :hide

I have Nubians and Nigerians. I also apparently have the quiet variety of Nubians...:P Thank goodness for that. My Nigis are only loud at feeding time, but I have a couple Nigis that have this maaaa that makes your ears ring it's so loud and obnoxious... Ease of milking, as it has been...

Yeah electric is pretty much the only solution to fence-busters...but after those first couple shocks they learn fast and leave it alone.

I would run a strand of electric over the top...

When I say 'dumping milk' it refers to feeding it to my dogs, cats and chickens LOL so it's not a complete waste...but they don't always finish it!

Some udders are 'meaty' and don't shrink down much. You'll know for sure after about a week of milking.

My father in law thinks we should become a Grade A Dairy...to which I giggle and wonder who's buying me the bulk tank?! I have 34 Nigerians and 5 Nubians...and usually have to dump milk because we have so much more than we can use. I kinda doubt it would spell much in profit, but it would be...
