You are right. I really don't believe anyone here would knowingly steer me wrong, that's why I was surprised to see all the comments about how wrong or misinformed I was. My vet is amazing. He is constantly keeping up his education and requires his staff to do so. I was surprised to see one have...
Thank you, it looks like all of her problems are resolved. We do plan on starting our own back yard farm we have 4 does and will be getting 2 bucks later in the year. Now we know what to look out for we will be better able to provide the nutrition they need.
**UPDATE** My vet is the best in the area, we will not be changing vets because he was exactly right!!! After putting Meadow on powdered goats milk (Meyenbrg brand) she improved almost immediately. Her poops are exactly as it should be. After the research I've done goats milk is lower in lactose...
We had them both on bagged milk replacer and it made both of them sick. We started using the cows milk replacer formula and one is doing great the other not so much. Her poop today was all foam he ran a fecal and didn't find any issues as far as parasites and bacteria. He said some goats can be...
We were at the get this morning getting their check up. The vet suggested no cows milk at all. I guess I should have been more specific. Would using a lactose free milk be safe for her? We will not use bagged milk replacer at all.
My 3 week old Nigerian Dwarf bottle baby is not digesting the lactose in the milk replacer ( whole milk, buttermilk, and evaporated milk) we have two right now and the other is doing great. We are trying to find raw goats milk for her but in our area (South Tennessee/ North Alabama) it's hard to...
Ok I would like to get gosslings as some of our dogs will be out in the same yard with them often and I don't want them get after the dogs. How often do female geese lay eggs?
The 5 we have aren't outside all time like a LGD would be. We have a good strong fence but may not be enough room. Thank you. You all have given us a lot to think about.
Ok we do have an issue with two of our dogs killing them but it has only happened during this season. I guess their usual prey of rabbits and opossums aren't as active. We may have to reconsider getting one then. We do have more of a predatory bird problem versus a 4 legged predator problem...
My husband and I are thinking about getting a Pyrneese. We have a small back yard menagerie. We have ducks, chickens, and two dwarf goats they we plan to breed, and rabbits. We have had an issue with foxes but the biggest issue seems to be owls and hawks. Would a LGD be able to prevent these...
Ok fantastic. Thank you so much. They have an open water source they drink from. His wattles are very large so I'm assuming that's how it happened. I'm going to bring him in the house, the other rooster are picking on him right now because he's weak.
My big Black Copper Maran rooster has gotten a little bit of frostbite on his very large wattles They have gotten very swollen and he is having trouble holding his head up and walking. How can we treat this?
