So our 2 week our lamb seems to be wondering off from mom more. She is nursing and is energetic. Earlier I went into the pasture and she was running back and forth like crazy abnormal for her? She just seemed to be a bit off but then was standing by me fine without being skiddish. Im extra...
Not many ticks but I think more are coming! The dogs around here (not mine) are covering in ticks!!! I was thinking of even putting a little bandana on the lamb with some repellent on it....was also wondering if you could use tick collars like you do for dogs and cats?
2 weeks out from lambing and she has been doing great! Let her out this morning and she had some vaginal bleeding there is also blood on her tail so I'm not sure how much she had bled. Eating well good energy!
Thoughts?
Thanks
How do you really go about weaning? I can see the week old lamb already trying to eat on pasture, knowing it's likely nothing and she still needs to nurse of course. But to some degree do they not naturally start to wean and eats what they live on?
Not a breed or my preference to tether....the breeder even warned us and as soon as we did it he lost his mind....
Anyways could anyone maybe tell me your experiences with a dog meeting lamb for the first time? The dog loves his sheep thinks he is one...
And for the ram...never put him back? I...
We can put a collar on him but anything like a tether he will start losing it.... I just want to be able to properly introduce them without him pawing and wanting to be overly playful.
We can't put anything around his neck. Absolutely nothing he will loose it what's a dangle atick? The ewe does head butt when he or other get too close at least threw fence the ram also puts him in his place and he easily lays down and doesn't try and attack. He really just wants to play there...
Since ewes were lambing I seperated the ram. He is by himself and was having a hard time initially. He is doing better now and stays close to fence where ewes and lamb are. But how long do I seperated them? How do I reintroduce without fear of him being aggressive with (his)lamb. I know to...
Hello
We live in southern missouri and have ticks issues! Some ticks were on our ewes manually removed but also just saw some on lamb. In past have used pyrethrin spray for flys but didn't want to apply anything since we have young babies. Can 5% pyrethrin be applied??
Thank you!!
I caught him bullying the girl so put her separate them saw him doing same with other ewe and she was charging back at him so I separated them. We have 4 different pastures on about 5 acres just one area finishing fencing but can easily rotate. Being waiting for it to be a bit warmer to get some...
I am newer to sheep but here is what has worked for me and what I have learned from chatting with others. I have katadhin / dorper mixes, there are a lot in my area and they do well with parasites, are so gentle and easy to maintain. I have a smaller barn and I made a gated area to lock them up...
Red Brand sheep fencing! I had to do all pasture over cattle fencing as my sheep were getting out and if they saw a dog go through, forget it, they follow. Expensive but I found that I dont have to worry at all with that fencing
We love our ram he just has lots of energy and wants the ladies! Did he freak out initially when u seperate him? Mine runs the fence and rams get to get to them but I only did that for a minute and let him go back with them...
Im really ready to get more but Im not sure what the best fit for...
Oh im with ya on that one! She is very special needs...noone will want her and she is a pet (that I really love and bond with). Do you think putting him with another ram or wether would help? Goat or other animal? The ewes are great away from him but as im sure u know...he cant be alone.
Hello!
I am Danielle and living in southern Missouri. I have 3 sheep that I have been learning from/about over the past 8 months. I love them to pieces but its been a learning curve. I have 20 years experience in the veterinary field (mostly small animal)...its kinda the same right?! :)
