Glad that she is better, hope that she continues to improve.
An FYI, entero is not diet related. It is a bacteria that they can pick up from anywhere. These bacteria are normally found in the soil and as part of the normal microflora in the gastrointestinal tract of healthy sheep and goats. C...
I am so far behind on journals but I want to mention something about the oat hay. I am not sure about oat, but I do know that wheat is SUPER high in phosphorus and oat may be as well. Just be careful feeding it to any bucks. You probably know this already but I would be kicking myself for not...
If they are three weeks old I am surprised you got them to nurse at all. I would start trying them with kitten chow soaked in milk or some smelly canned food, the stinkier the better. I always stimulate them to urinate and have the bowel movement until they are close to 4 weeks but sometimes...
I haven't posted in forever, just too darn busy. Goats to milk, weeds to cut, chicks and ducks to raise, pups to play with, garden to plant, and the list goes on. My post right now is because I am looking for advice.
I have 4 puppies left and one of them is the female that is supposed to go to...
You can also drench them with a good hefenweizen beer. Widmer Brothers Hefe is the brand we use in CA. It has a bacteria very similar to a goat's rumen. And that my good friends is a reason I don't drink beer. :sick
A three pound goat isn't going to take 10 oz of milk this young. But I would still offer it and let him tell you when he is full. It is amazing how much milk they can drink, I swear that they have hollow legs.
Sorry you lost your doe, it is heart breaking. I would start with about 10-12 ounces 4 times a day. Let him have as much as he wants, my rule is they can spit out the nipple three times before I decide that they are truly full. By one week I would go to 3x a day and offer him 20 ounces and let...
Isn't CA just wonderful? It annoys me SO MUCH !!!!!!!!!! Before you start on antibiotics you can take a red top tube and get a clean catch of milk and store it in the refrigerator so you can send it in to the lab if you need to. If you send it in ask for a sensitivity test you can find out what...
I am not planning on keeping any and since you want to breed Queenie this would not have been a good litter for you. Four of the seven ended up with entropion and had to have eye surgery to correct it. It is hereditary so I won't be breeding Francis and Alondra again, at least not to each other...
Queenie is sure a pretty girl. I have to post a picture on your journal just to show what wonderful mothers the tolis are. My pups are almost ready to start leaving; that is the hard part for sure. :hit
This guy is pretty shy, he is a mama's boy and will probably go to a pet home or a least a...
30mg/kg (665mg/50 pounds) twice daily . The most common tablets are 960mg. = one 960mg tablet per 70-75 pounds twice daily.
If yours are not 960 adjust accordingly. I have never used it, just what is in my notes.
Right back at you @Southern by choice
Seriously though, have you owned Poppy since she was a baby? Sometimes goats can have a precocious udder and get mastitis even if they have never been bred. The mastitis can cause scar tissue in the teat canal which will prevent you from getting...
Maybe it depends on how long you have to hold it before shipping. I just used a red top tube and did a clean catch and shipped it off the next day. I clean the teat with alcohol and just aim a squirt for that 1/2" opening. LOL.
@Fullhousefarm Can I see the vacuum pump? I am looking for a used one for a friend and not giving up my portable one in case of a catastrophic failure and I have to milk 50 goats with it some morning. (Heaven forbid)!!!!!!! Just curious as to what you have.
