any thoughts or experiences would be welcome. i am workin on gettin some meat breeds and was thinkin a FG or FG cross would be good. from what i see of their sizes on youtube videos compared to what i am seeing of my dutch kits they seem to be fairly good growth.
maybe a half FG-half NZ or cali...
i noticed this morning while feeding that my dutch doe's belly has kinda "dropped". as in its
still her usual baby belly but it seems to almost like it had moved from looking like it was
glued to her spine/rib area to now setting in the bottom of her belly. she seems kinda sunken
in below...
well today is day 28 for my dutch doe. her belly seems to have dropped. i'm gonna make another topic for it...
also today i felt 3 or 4 seperate kicks from her belly. :D fingers crossed for lotsa fat healthy popples!
if they have never been seperated and have been fine with each other thus far i see no reason to seperate them. this seems like a nice little colony set up of sorts. :) good luck!
got a cage built today and moved the weaned dutch kits over to it. dutch doe is due in 8 days. :) i'm counting down. every person i pass in the house gets "9 days"..... "9 days".... "hey dad guess what" dad: "what" me: "NINE DAYS :D"
so today its "8 days". lol. i think i'm driving everyone nuts...
:D my "office" in the barn get internet  but i'm on a laptop and the house net just happens to reach out there. but i have to make sure i save everything because there is no power out there so i'm just running on my laptop battery. hopefully i will get this car battery and hanging light out...
that usually means she's jealous and hopes you toss them so she can snag em
but that was usually between my sisters. not between me and one of them. lol. i never really got into clothes or shopping or none of that.
my lionhead trio all seem to be the same size. the buck is a little heavier then the does. but they all look about the same size. the person i got them from couldnt give me a DOB for the other two but the one doe has a pedigree. says DOB sept. 23, 2007... both does were supposedly bred and due...
thanks. i have read a bit about the breed and like them more then anything i have ever read on any other breed. plus they look more appealing to me. for whatever reason i just dont care for the looks of most sheep. i mean lambs are adorable but what baby animal isnt? :P
i want them for wool for...
i am thinking on a fiber animal and one of the ones i am thinking on is icelandic sheep.
i picked this breed because they are multipurpose. milk/meat/fiber. so i can milk them (and make cheese :D ) as well as get the wool and i can eat them or sell the meat. plus i'm reading that they do well...
when i was a kid my parents got me and my sisters rabbits for easter one year. my dad built a hutch for them and had it in the yard but he got tired of mowing around it. he moved it into the goat pen. the goats would butt it and scare the rabbits. the goats learned that if they kept hitting it...
:P why yes it is. here is a link to the video that i first found the idea in: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SERA-c82Vmo&list=PLDEBFC651CC9C39A9&index=2&feature=plpp_video
but i am connecting the plastic bag loops and then spinning it. i am going to ply it and maybe make sandal soles or...
i dont see why you couldnt. i have a trio of lionheads. only had em for about a month though. i dont think they shed that much hair that it would be worth keeping them as a fiber animal. i mean they are adorable and all. but they dont appear to shed like at all. at least not mine. but i dont...
made two drop spindles the other day. spinning wool on one and "plarn" on the other. here is some pics of what i have.
i have shortened the longer one. now it is just a few inches longer then the short one.
i have mohair that is straight from the goat. hope to try and do some...
i was just wondering how long you wait? or how long you are supposed to wait.. if at all.
i am wanting to put the manure around plants. also can i use it in pots to start plants?
i heard some places that it is considered a "cold" manure and can be used straight on plants. thoughts?
thanks!
btw...
i have a question for you guys...
i have had my lionheads for most of this month. they still do not come up to me when i feed them or anything. "cowardly lion" will sit in the front part of the hutch when i open it but if i do anything other then just grab the bowls, fill them, and put them back...
i'm new to rabbits myself but breeding age for rabbits seems to be 6-8 months old. some say to start at 6 months is better. others say wait until 8 months. some have other ages that they wait for. besides age i would say, no matter the species, look at the animal and make sure they are big...
now i'm always one to think about what crosses would look like in any animal. so i am wondering what a cross of these would look like.... anyone know of any interesting looking crosses? thanks!
:D awesome. my sister would probably try and talk me into talking you into letting her come and see em if she knew. haha. she says she wants a REALLY BIG RABBIT and a *reeeeeally*tiny*rabbit*... its doubtful though that she'll keep interest in even thinking about them for longer then a...
