    Happy Acres -day by day

I have a drake! The other three apparently are ducks. So that gives me a three to one ratio. I've heard that ducks must have a pond to mate. Is that true of all ducks, or is it breed specific? I think Muscovy ducks mate on land. But these aren't Muscovies.

    Wish me luck!

I'm taking some of my buns to mountain top in the am. Hopefully I'll be able to sell a few. NZW going to try to sell for 15.00 each. I think that's a pretty fair price! Also taking some rabbit's feet to sell, 2.00 each. The money will go for my new to me hunting rifle.

So, Bridey has four kits, Barley has nine. Eggs in the 'bator, doing just fine! Caught me some crappie, and a couple of bass, DH was out mowing the grass. Canner is popping, jelly is jellin ' , sauerkraut 's working, you can tell by the smellin ' .

    Happy Acres Kindling Watch

We had a ditchbuster of a storm last night, so of course Barley thinks that's the perfect time to kindle. Her other kits are five and a half weeks old, so they're weaned. They've been moved to another pen. Back to Barley, I go out to feed and water everyone, and I notice rabbit fur everywhere. I...

    Happy Acres Kindling Watch

Having trouble with Bridey 's kits. They keep ending up out of the nest and laying outside the hutch. I don't know if they latch on to her and fall off, or if they are falling out of the nest. I'm afraid they're going to get brain damage from falling so much!

    Happy Acres Kindling Watch

Actually it was Barley that kindled last month. Her kits are looking beautiful! I mistyped and said it was Bridey. Bridey was a surprise because even though I took her to have a date with O'Hara, I didn't think it took. He never did the kick and fall. Plus that was well over a month ago!

    Happy Acres Kindling Watch

So I go out to feed the buns, and what do I find in Bridey 's hutch? A nest full of kits! This was a surprise kindling.

    Happy Acres -day by day

So, I go out today to feed the buns. Bridey starts rushing at me trying to chase me away. She and Bucky are in the dog pen. So I'm thinking, she's lost her mind, time to go to freezer camp. Nope! Looking in the hutch, what do I find? A nest full of kits! There were 5 or 6, not sure. Apparently...

18 eggs in the incubator! I'll have to check Monday to see which ones are fertile. Time to feed the buns!

    Happy Acres -day by day

So, I put Bucky in with Bridey. Her hutch is inside a large dog pen. Maybe they'll start a rabbit colony. Put some eggs in the incubator, probably add a few tomorrow. No drake curls yet, maybe I have all ducks? Monday going fishing, and am saving up for a rifle to go hunting this fall. Anyone...

Mine are ready to be rehomed. Either that, or they'll have to go into the grow out pen in preparation for freezer camp.

    Californian or New Zealand?

Don't know about that, but cooler would probably be better. Mine are through breeding for the summer, I'll start back again in September.
