No I went with the Tunis :D
There is a gal maybe 3 hours from me that sells the California reds and she is super sweet! I also have a little California red currently who inspired me moving to either the red, or the Tunis....
This red girl....I can't say enough good things about her. When we...
I went out there this morning fully expecting her to have passed....and praise the Lord she was chewing on some cud.....Oh gosh what an emotional roller coaster!
I have the 3 sick lambs on a dry lot away from the herd...however they were exposed to everyone for the 3 days I was trying to...
Okay so we brought in 3 new lambs to our herd, They are 3 months old, I've had them for 3 weeks. 5 days ago I noticed they had super wet, yucky bums with the worst kind of diarrhea. Took the worst one to the vet, it's Coccidia. Which in the 7 years of owning livestock this is the first time I...
I couldn't tell from the photos, but they looked dreamy! :D My first thought if you took them to the city was "Shepherd goals!" But I suppose that is a pretty crazy thought HAH! Still very dreamy to take your sheep for walks on your property! Love the photos!
I appreciate all your feedback! :D THANK YOU! I've been stuck because I can purchase commercial lambs that look EXCELLENT!! But this particular breed is not super popular in my area, so I've been struggling on whether to go for the purchase of the unregistered, vs waiting for registered and...
My barn has just dirt, and we muck out in the fall.Throw straw down in lambing season.... We had a guy come out and redo our septic and had tons of extra rocks-so we put it on the walkway from the pasture to the barn. Roughly 20 feet.....was not a fan at all. At first I thought it was brilliant...
I keep walking out to the sheep house and looking at them! LOL
Honestly, he did not mention what he meant on less hardy, and I probably should have asked-he was also trying to sell me his dorpers LOL so I took it with a grain of salt.....
We are in Idaho-so hot summers, cold winters. From the...
I was initially drawn to them for a few reasons, I wanted a small, prolific, gentle sheep with dual purpose....meat/wool....and the Tunis sealed the deal as I looked into their history. I don't know from experience yet, but supposedly their meat is mild in flavor, and from what I can see on...
Welp I did it. Not a California Red, but I purchased my first Tunis Ewe, her weather lamb, and A Ram. We named Momma Amelia, and our Ram (not related to momma) Tozer. I am BEYOND excited. They are quiet, sweet, easy to work with and I can't wait to get photos of them in the pasture!
Yes, thank you for the great advice! I found the one breeder in Oregon that I have been chatting with. They are part of the registry, and their prices seem to reflect the market here in Idaho as well. She also invited us out to look at them so I think we will take her up on that and just see...
I actually had intended to get some ewes and a Tunis Ram to see how they produced, and if I'm overly honest, I just thought it would be a fun venture. ;)
I'm in Idaho. :)
Okay, wow, that was an excellent reply. Far more information than what I could gather up. I actually have sheep. We really enjoy them. I have Suffolk Ewes and a Hampshire Ram. The appeal to this breed was not only the look, but also the smaller size. I think that I should do...
