Thanks Greybeard!! I'm thinking of just feeders "cows", now. I will contact my extensions and see whats available around this area. It's great to know about the exemptions, but the wife will be doing all the financial things for us, but I will be sure to tell her!! Just so you know, this wont be...
Wow. I didn't realize that calves took so long to wean. I like your idea of the two feeder cows instead. Sounds more feasible that way.
The chickens will be in a permanent house, and I plan on feeding them fermented food to try and help with the cost.
Thanks for your advice!!
I know there might be some extra fencing involved, but I'm hoping that I can leave the pigs in one pasture for a year, then switch them out with my main garden area the next year. I plan on just rotating the goats, sheep and cow(s). I was thinking about 2 acres per cow, just to be on the safe...
Beings that I'm still in the looking process, I cant tell you about what is there or not, along with the soil, nor the type of vegetation on the land. I know the variables, but just looking for a ball park figure. Also, I just want to be ready for when I do get the appropriate property, that I...
I was thinking more for rotating pastures. For the cows, it wont be too much longer for momma cow to be in the freezer, after the weaning process, I hope! So that will probably ease up on me without having a constant 2 in there.
I'd like them to live off the land as much as possible, but also...
As some of you know, I'm a newbie that wants to buy a farm, so the question is, what would be the recommended acreage for the animals that I want to acquire? As I know from the posts here that it would depend on different scenarios, I would just like an amount of acreage to be comfortable with...
I would try to research what they are possibly worth first, so you can have a better idea to what they will pay you for them, imo. like you said, to many people wanting things for free, or cheaper than what they are worth.
Btw, I just finished reading your blog, and appreciate your effort and...
The walk behinds are good as long as its not the first till in that spot. That last time, it about shook me to death. The other garden was tilled the year before and it was easy the 2nd time_!!
That is the list that I've pretty much been reading about on the different sites. I would think the the auger would have some sort of pull downs on them, so they would be more efficient. I guess not.
I know you can cultivate with the discs, so what's the differences between them and a...
Beings that I'm going to be just starting out on this journey, I'd like to know what size tractor you have and the most important attachments you have for your farm.
I know that most of you, if not all, have gardens as well, so please include your gardening equipment too. I've read from a few...
