Is it worth saving a weak lamb?

The title probably sounds very cruel and heartless. However, I'm currently sitting with a tiny lamb in a box with a blowdrier, having already soaked it in hot water for 5 minutes The blasted thing is coming back to life, and whereas earlier it did nothing but lie motionless with very little...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Well, I went out to check, and lo and behold I see a foot, then two coming in and out. Lots of pushing but no progress, so my nephew and I went to pulling, but that sucker was stuck tight. But it was alive! Tongue out of moth a bit so we helped by tugging - lots of lube and assisting her...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

We're going to check again and see what's up. We'll try to manually dilate the cervix... don't have any Metacam or the like. So many things to go in the lambing kit. A nice big bottle of experience being the most mecessary... I'm not thinking ringwomb b/c it was dilated - just not enough, as...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Okay, so she's down and pushing pretty hard, and definitely breathing very heavily. No moaning/yelling at this point. But still no sign of anything bulging at the back end. Does a ewe normally have to work this hard to dilate the cervix? I thought this much pushing and hard working was only...

How hard should a ewe 'push' in stage 1 labour?

As I've detailed in my previous post, I have an older first time ewe in labour right now, and not seeming to be getting anywhere. No waters yet, did an exam and cervix is not fully dilated, though lamb seems to be there waiting (either head or back - something hard at least was felt). My...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Okay, well, my nephew came over and we both took a turn examining her. I tried first (how brave, I know) but didn't really know what I was doing, nor how hard to push. I got in about to where my fingers meet my hand, maybe a bit farther. Basically all 4 fingers. Apparently I was past the...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Is the finger sweep just to see (eg) how dilated the cervix is, or...? She's a monster ewe, and I can't see how I'd be able to examine her without assistance - something I don't have at the moment! Better call my nephew, as I don't think my 10 year old could hold back this ewe - she jumps when...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Thanks! I'm torn about jumping the gun here - she is obviously in labour, but apparently stage 1 can take 2-14 hours... Then other sites say 2-6 hours, and so on. As she's a first time mum, I feel like I should just give her a bit of time... and yet I don't want to let the lamb(s) die...

Ewe straining but no plug, no discharge, no sac... Just wait?

Hey all, We came home from church at 1:30 this afternoon to find my rambouillet ewe Bonnie with sunken in sides, an udder the size of a basketball, and breathing pretty hard. As of now (2.5 hours later) she's in the jug doing all the pawing, breathing hard with head hanging down, lying down...

URGENT - Ewe stopping labour between twins?!

Never mind. Bottle of Depocillin says 3.5 ml. Done. Mum is lying down a lot, as is the lamb, but she's actually pretty healthy, 9lbs, heavier than I thought, and she appears to be nursing regularly. However, I tried to milk a little colostrum to have on hand 'just in case' in the future, and...

URGENT - Ewe stopping labour between twins?!

Okay, well, I think that's that. Sabine, a first timer at 2 years old (what's that called again?), delivered a very small ewe lamb unassisted this morning, a day ahead of schedule. She is smaller than the smallest of my three TRIPLETS! I gave it a go having the ewe foster my 4 day old bottle...

URGENT - Ewe stopping labour between twins?!

URGENT - Ewe stopping labour between twins?!

I have some penicillin so I've give her some later... I'll tell you the inside of a sheep's uterus isn't anything like I thought it would feel like. Couldn't feel anything anything that resembled a lamb

URGENT - Ewe stopping labour between twins?!

Sorry for the typos. I'm texting when my left hand while my right is encased in a slimy and bloody lambing sleeve. And it's minus 20 degrees here. Nice amniotic icicle arm...
