12 week old goats with diarrhea

Complete disclosure, Gudron got her head stuck in the feeder first, and then in the gate. So yes, this seems to prove what you're saying. :)

Update: Both goats have fully recovered. Yay! Electrolytes (Goaterade) 3 times a day, 1 probiotic each morning, and 6 mLs of Corid with 3 mLs of Pepto on top for 5 days. And...I was very busy cleaning their house and cleaning their butts. Thanks for the support and advice.

12 week old goats with diarrhea

OK, update! Goat berries are back! Gudron recovered in 3 days and it took Hildur 6 days. They both had probiotics every day, LOTS of electrolytes (I'm calling it Goaterade), and I cleaned butts many times and cleaned out the poopy straw in their house many times as well. I am so glad things...

My neighbor studied cheese-making in France and makes AMAZING goat cheese. I would love to be doing that with milk from my goats, but it seems like a big undertaking. Baby steps. Hopefully I'm not speaking too soon, but the scours seem to be subsiding. Goat butts are looking less dirty...

    New goat dad in PA

Hey GW, I was instructed to treat again in two weeks for that reason. I hope this resolves soon. The goats seem to be acting OK. Playing, eating, and drinking. I will definitely be having a fecal done (for the goats, not me) in the near future.

Thanks, Latestarter. I hope they get well soon, too. This morning one squirted diarrhea on both of my legs and my arm. I was pretty surprised, but all I could think was, "When these goats are feeling better, this is going to be a funny story to tell."

12 week old goats with diarrhea

I've attached a picture of the goats. Gudron and Hildur. I believe I could kid them and milk them if I wanted, but that is a commitment I'm not quite willing to make (I'm in grad school, starting a career soon (hopefully)). The abnormality in the udder is that one of the milk squirters is...

The goats are taking the electrolytes voraciously and I am following the vet's advice with the Corid. If things aren't improving by tomorrow I will take the fecal over to the vet. Thanks for all of the advice and support.

Thanks, everyone. I just heard back from the woman who I got the goats from. She had a coccidia outbreak at her farm last Thursday, so this is likely coccidia in my goats. She told me how to treat it with a Corid/Imodium mix (which I have started already), so hopefully this will clear up...

12 week old goats with diarrhea

I just spoke with woman who we got the goats from and she said she had a coccidia outbreak last Thursday at her farm, so this is most surely coccidia. I am treating with Corid, Imodium, and Pearl probiotics per her instruction. Very scary, but I'm glad we're taking action now.

12 week old goats with diarrhea

Hello! I am new to the forum, and a new goat owner. We adopted two Guernsey goats and after three days, thy both developed diarrhea (first it was dog poop-like, then more liquidy). We do let them graze, which is different from the dry lots they were born in, so I thought this was a result...

    New goat dad in PA

Hello! I became a member of BYC a while back and found the site extremely useful in building a coop that suited my needs. Now my family is on to goats. Last week we adopted two female Guernsey goats who have deformities in their utters, so they can not be registered as dairy goats. We don't...
