I bought Stella a Jersey cow 14 years ago. She was 2 years old and I kept her with my horses and goats on 4 acres without any problems. Three years ago I moved to a large farm in Kentucky and bought a few more cattle. The first one Sadie was a miniature and the two animals bonded immediately...
I agree with the others. Stay calm and relax. Think about the amount of $$ your spending to buy a good doe. You don't want to miss something just because your nervous. Just think of what the breeder would do if it was the other way around. Good Luck!
I have 2 jennys and a bunch of little dogs and have no problems. I've taught the dogs to not get too close to any of the livestock and the donkeys just watch them but have never bothered them.
He needs to go. He's got teeth, sharp hooves and has made it very very clear he's out to get you! He's dangerous for you to be anywhere near for whatever reason he decided he dislikes you! Before he gets you when you least expect it get rid of him! Not all animals are friendly and good with...
I have used Ivermectin pour on and injectable for ear mites in my goats for over 10 years and never had a problem. I put about half to 1 cc in a needleless syringe then squirt deep in the ear. Rub and aquish the outside of the ear to spread it around in the ear. Repeat in about 2 weeks.
A calf hutch would work well for 2 Nigerian Dwarfs. The large Igloo dog houses also work well but each would have their own house. I bring mine in every night as I have lots of coyotes and a bobcat.
Try a rescue that has horses on site. Don't be fooled by auction rescues as I understand there are a lot of unscrupulous dealings going on. But there are a lot of legitimate rescues that go to the auctions and save some really nice horses. The rescues will be well below $5000. but may have some...
I recently read that cabbage wasn't good for goats too! I have Nigerian dwarfs and have been giving them cabbage for many years with no ill affects. I never gave them a lot. Just the few leaves I trimmed off the cabbage before cooking.
I agree these animals are not playmates. And to encourage head butting is just plain foolish and dangerous. I have 2 Nigerian Dwarf bucks, both love treats and being petted. They have never attempted to butt me. I've been knocked about more from my females scurrying for treats than my bucks. And...
I went to Lowes and got the smallest they had that bunny poo would fall thru. I think it's half inch. I have Flemish Giant/Silver Fox crosses. If you have smaller bunnies you might need smaller spacing.
The wire spacing is half inch and you can cut the wire top for each section. All explained in the video. I didn't cut the top for each section. I just lift the top and roofing together. Then hold it up with a metal post.
I followed this to build my cages . I absolutely love it! Very easy to follow and put together and you can make as big or small as you want. We put a sheet of roll roofing across the top of ours but you can use whatever you have available
As soon as they hatch I take them from the mom and raise them. I've lost too many leaving them with the mom. So they know the barn is a safe place and I give a scoop of feed when they come in. Never had any fly off on their own.
I have Muscovys that love to fly. I love watching them fly except on the rare occasion they fly into me coming into the barn for the night. lol It's a beautiful sight watching groups of them fly around my property.
