    Chicken just standing

The treatments are metronidazole and panacur. I thought metronidazole was an antibiotic, but I guess I was mistaken.

    Chicken just standing

Good news from the vet today! My chicken has worms (never thought I'd be happy about that😏). So, a course of antibiotics and a week of quarantine, and she'll be fine. She's already looking much better. She's nesting down in her crate and seems so much more comfortable😊.

    Chicken just standing

She's a golden-laced Wyandotte,so not a production breed. She's never been a terribly prolific egg-layer, and I don't artificially light the coop during winter. My chickens are definitely pets.

    Chicken just standing

Thank you. That does sound very much like my hen's situation. She's a young chicken, not even 3 years old. I have an appointment with a vet tomorrow, so,if need be,I can have her put down humanely:(.

    Chicken just standing

I have a hen who has literally just been standing still for at least 24 hours. A couple of days ago,I noticed she seemed slightly lethargic and wasn't running around with the other chickens. she seemed to improve, then yesterday she pretty much just started standing in one place. My first...

    Opinions please on heartworm preventatives

Hi, I am seeking opinions on the pros and cons of monthly heartworm meds, like Interceptor or Heartguard, vs. a shot that works for 6 or 12 months. Has anyone done the shots and had a bad experience? I have very picky dogs and getting them to take the meds is a monthly battle of wills. The...

    Fat sheep

Thanks, everyone, for lots of good advice. I will certainly be considering it all and making changes. Won't my sheep be surprised! I'll post updates of their weight-loss journey.

    Fat sheep

Yes, they eat it all, usually within a couple of hours. It's second cut grass hay. We have lots of coyotes in our area, so locking them in the barn is essential.

    Fat sheep

My routine has been to let the sheep out to pasture at 6:30 am and bring them in at around 5:00 pm, then give them the hay for the overnight hours. So they don't need anything for that 12+ hours? Boy, no wonder they're overweight:confused:. What about during the cold months when there is no...

    Fat sheep

So no more grain, but should I cut their hay rations as well?

    Fat sheep

I have three 3-year-old babydoll southdowns (2 ewes and 1 wether). The vet says they are all overweight:eek:. They are on good pasture during the day in the warm months and get 2 flakes of grass hay at night. In the winter, I feed 2 flakes of hay in the day and 2 at night. They get a few...

    Discoid lupus

That sounds like it could be helpful! My concern would be if it would be dangerous for the dogs to ingest. Her pyr pal loves nothing better than to lick her nose after I've put on some balm or ointment. It's as if he's saying, "Oh, you've got something on your nose. Here, let me help you with...

    Discoid lupus

Thanks for your ideas. I appreciate your taking the time to respond:). Discoid lupus however (as I now know. Never heard of it before either!) is an autoimmune disease that manifests itself in areas that are exposed to the sun, which in dogs is mainly the nose and eye area, since everything...

    Discoid lupus

My Great Pyr has been tentatively diagnosed with discoid lupus. I say tentatively, because the vet is judging by symptoms. If she doesn't respond to the medications that the vet prescribed, a biopsy will be done on some skin tissue. It's not at all common for Pyrs to have it. My main concern is...

    Wound care for my lgd

Thanks for the advice everyone! I've been spraying Vetricyn Plus on the wound several times a day for the past few days and it is definitely healing. It is safe for dogs to lick, but it seems like it is not getting licked off. I have also doubled the number of fly traps in the barn area which...

    Wound care for my lgd

Is it safe if she licks it? She does have a rather long tongue and can get at the top of her nose. Also, my male Great Pyr licks her nose as well.

    Wound care for my lgd

I need some advice on how to heal a wound that my Great Pyr has on her nose. It's from scratching at flies that sit on the end of her nose, which opens up the skin, which causes more flies to sit there, so she scratches more. It's a vicious cycle. The same thing happened last year. The vet gave...

    New Puppy coming!

Things are going really well.Thank you for asking! My boy is so happy to have someone to play all those silly doggie games with. At first he was like a poor awkward kid who had never had any friends and didn't know how to behave with one. He was ,shall we say, overenthusiastic in his play. He had...

    New Puppy coming!

I have decided to take the plunge and get a puppy to keep my almost-8-moths-old Great Pyrenees company. I posted about my woes with my Great Pyr a couple of months ago and described some of the troubles I was having with him. I got some very good advice and have been working with him diligently...

Too many mistakes with my Great Pyr?

I'm sure that's true. I have been in contact with a couple of breeders in my area who have puppies who will soon be ready to take home. I will certainly NOT take a puppy before it's at least 9 weeks old. Learned my lesson there! But here's the question: should I get a male or a female or does it...
