UPDATE- I took him to the sale yesterday. He just would not keep those horns to himself. He went after me again. So, he is gone. I have to be able to walk through my pastures with out needing to be worrying about getting attacked everytime I do it...I totally agree with being cautious with any...
Here are some before pics of my mini alpaca... His name is Shaggy. He did not spit at all- in fact he layed down, and was perfectly still...My llama on the other hand..I had to tie him up short, and panel him with a gate- he kicked, spit, carried on like I was trying to kill him, lol!
It's not a pretty shear job, and is far from professional...but the wool is off! These girls feel so much better now. They don't look as bad as I thought they would either... I have meant to get these pics up all week, but kept forgetting. Thanks for those of you who said an Oster clipmaster...
It is actually pretty funny to watch, but the one animal that does not back down from him is my mini alpaca- I have a half the normal sized adult alpaca that will not let this guy push him around. He goes after him, and spits and bites and jumps around him like a lunatic, and freaks the ram...
So we have had them for 2 weeks now, and they are doing well. I have wormed them all,and vaccinated them all. Our electronet fencing came from Valley Vet, and we have fenced the hillside so they can go out on the good grass... This weekend will be shearing and hoof trimming. So, here are some...
I am being really cautious with him. I have already decided that if I get another ram it will be a 2 horn lamb that I can raise,so I can be familiar with him-will still need to be cautious, but at least then I will know the ram. I unfortunately have no real history on this guy. Here is a pic of...
We moved the goats to the big pasture next door this week...They have 4 acres of pasture and brush, and they have done a great job in the 3 days they have been there so far. They think they went to goat heaven! Here is a pic, they are doing quite nicely!
These are the sheep in poor condition, and I would rather they not be bred right now-or this fall if they aren't ready....which is why I asked if the ewes mounting each other was a sign of them being in heat...I can keep the ram seperated, but then he butts everything and paces the fence-which...
So, my newly acquired small flock of Jacobs has presented me with a small problem. The 4 horned ram, whom I am being cautious around as I do not know him well at all- is becoming aggressive and a bit unpredictable. If I keep him with the ewes, he is fine- if I pen him by himself, he gets angry...
The people who had them were advised by animal control to either take better care of them(which meant feed them, and get them in a better area) or get rid of them. They chose to get rid of them, since they claimed they could not afford to buy feed anymore, and put them on craigslist for free to a...
I won't switch vets, as I have horses and this guy is a great horse vet. One of the best in our area, one of the few who will treat drafts-and I have clydesdales. Will have to find a "livestock" vet for the rest of the critters. :)
The vet suggested half a dose now and half a dose in 2 weeks so that I did not hit them too hard at once-then hit them with a full dose 2 weeks after that. The people we got them from said it had been a couple of years since they had been wormed, and my concern was that killing off all the...
I gave them loose minerals that has selenium in it, as well as copper(they are seperated from the sheep) as I am sure they are very deficient in both. I was planning on giving them vitamin ADE shots this weekend...Does that seem ok?
Here are pics of my small flock of jacobs I rescued last weekend. They are very thin and bony under all that wool- I will be shearing them soon. They are all pretty friendly and easy to handle, they follow a grain bucket anywhere, lol.
3 of the ewes...
the other 2 ewes
the ram...
Here are the goats that I rescued last weekend (from my other thread).. These were taken shortly after I brought them home. They are improving nicely, and have been here almost a week.I am no longer fearing that they will die, lol.
Here is the older nubian doe, and the one in the worst shape of...
2 weeks ago I responded to an add on craigslist for "free to good home"....... finally heard back form the guy, and we were practically neighbors. Went and looked last weekend, and then brought them all home. So, just what did I end up with? 2 pygmy whethers, 5 nubian does, 1 nubian buck, 1...
