The people we got them from have a board that the alpaca against and then when they are secured they tilt the board so it becomes a table. Quite a contraption. When they alert they sound like donkeys on helium.

    Any Alpaca gurus here??

This was a fun thread to read. I'm still learning. I have two elderly gelded alpacas. We have had them about three weeks now and they are settling in nicely. They will take feed from my hand and one will eat carrots. We will be taking them to be sheared this year. I'd like to see it done before...

Dallas and Ringo are with us now...

We are really enjoying them. The lady wrote a children's book about 10 years ago and her daughter drew pictures of the alpacas. I love that my boys are in the book. It will be awesome to read the book to my grand daughter when she is a little older. I have been giving them a very small handful...

I hadn't thought about using it as an actual slide! That could be fun too!

Ideas for old swing set slide

There was an old swing set where our animal pen is now. We saved the slide. We were thinking it might make a good goat toy. Any thoughts? We are going to build some of those little A-Frame houses and thought we could put the slide on top of two of them like a bridge. Should we put some wooden...

Dallas and Ringo are with us now...

We adopted two elderly alpacas from a very nice lady who suddenly lost her husband in a car accident. She is having to downsize her farm. It is so tragic. They have grass to nibble on but also have orchard hay. In the evening they each get a handful of alpaca pellets and COB. I need to get...

    Hay Feeder

We are getting our Alpacas this weekend! I have two heavy metal corner hay feeders that the previous owner of our house left. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could reuse them for the Alpacas and the goats that will be joining us in the summer? The bars are too wide but hubby can weld...

    Dallas and Ringo

Thanks to all who have replied. It is appreciated! I do know that copper is bad for the Alpacas. I will definitely be feeding them separately (minerals included) - except for hay which I think they can share if I put an additional feeder in the shared area. The Alpaca farm and the goat breeder...

    Dallas and Ringo

Here are Dallas and Ringo. They will be the first additions to our backyard herd in about a month. They are in their golden years but we will give them tons of love and attention for whatever time they have left. They are both about 16. They will be sharing a small pasture with two Nigerian...

Put a deposit down on two Nigerian Dwarf goats! Need to get ready for them...

The breeder gave us a lot of good information and now I have good information from you to add to my goat folder. Thank you! We were thinking of fencing the entire area with 5' chain link since the back side of the area is already fenced. I will make notes that when we divide things off to use...

Put a deposit down on two Nigerian Dwarf goats! Need to get ready for them...

Last weekend we put a deposit down on two NDG babies. They won't be born until mid April to early May. We will get to choose from 8-10 expected kids. That means we have until early June to get ready. We do have coyotes and stray dogs in the area. We have two dogs but they are inside most of the...

Nigerian Dwarf Goats - Questions for Breeder

Hello again! We are meeting with the goat breeder this weekend. They have babies due end of April/beginning of May. Any recommendations on questions to ask them would be appreciated. I am undecided if I want to get two neutered males or one neutered male and a female to possibly breed and...

    New Here - Southern California

Hello, I'm new here. I grew up with animals and I am so excited to now be able to have them again. We just purchased a house with 3/4 of an acre and we are thinking about maybe getting a couple of pet goats in the spring. Probably neutered males. I don't think we will want milk. We are doing...
