    Growing Grains toxic or not

I want to grow some grains for my chickens and ducks but I am not sure if they are truly toxic or problematic for goats. I searched here but most posts were old so if there is any new information I'd love to hear it. The plan is to grow amaranth, flax, sorghum, hops, quinoa and possibly millet...

    Vitamins for sick Flemish

I realized I hadn't updated. Sadly a few days after my last post Nova suffered a stroke and passed peacefully and comfortably with us. I don't know if it was related to the bad hay he ate or possibly old age all I know is that we miss him. A dear sweet friend insisted on giving my daughter a six...

    Goats in shock

Believe it or not around here there are more laws regarding guard dogs than guns. I have a pitbull and even if another dog is killing my livestock and I let my dog go after the attack dog my dog will have to be put down for being vicious and I will be fined for having a vicious dog...

    Goats in shock

Thank you good information should this ever happen again. I made sure to shore up the door to their shed and now they are locked in every night much to their dismay. That particular dog hasn't come back but another one tried to get on our property yesterday so we are on high alert. Armed and...

    Goats in shock

The girls were pretty stressed for two days but they bounced back with some extra grazing time and a lots of love. Unfortunately our main property fence is at the maximum night allowed, 4 1/2 feet, including one strand of barbed wire on top. Their own enclosure will be getting an upgrade so the...

    Vitamins for sick Flemish

Thank you all. Nova is doing better and eating beautifully. He is enjoying all the extra attention and food. I switched him to a water bowl as well because he doesn't like using a bottle and will ignore it. I can tell he is better hydrated now.

    Any Idea What Breed?

Okay. She does look like an Alpine but I hadn't thought about a cross with a Nubian but I can see it. That could explain why one of her kids has slightly longer ears than it's sister. Thank you.

    Vitamins for sick Flemish

Last week my daughter's Lop rabbit died from bad hay. Her Flemish was also eating the grass but he seemed stronger than the Lop so we though we caught him in time. He has been eating new clean timothy for five days now. Today as I was checking him all over I can tell he is easily 5 pounds under...

    Goats in shock

I need to know what the signs of shock are? Early this morning I chased away a giant German shepherd that was attacking my young goats. I have checked them all over and the only injury I see are a couple cuts on the back of their necks. No obvious broken bones, internally I don't know. I have...

    Hello from New Mexico

Hello.from hot and sunny central New Mexico. I inherited a goat and her two kids and even though its been a year I still feel like a newbie. As my name suggests I am 'hopeful' to learn a lot about goats and other herd animals from you all.

    Any Idea What Breed?

I have had this girl for a year and still don't know what breed she is. It really doesn't matter but I am curious. Haven't properly measured her but at the top of her head she is a little over three feet tall, the shelter she is standing in front of is four feet tall.
